I loved Dr. Heap! He is a very experienced, caring Doctor. The staff was also helpful and considerate. I would recommend him to everyone who is considering WLS.

I would recommend Dr. Heap to anyone who asks. I was impressed by him because he was so professional from the beginning and yet there was a caring feeling about him. A feeling of "he wants to help me". The office staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Very nice ladies. He expects you to know what you want and that you know how it works and are willing to do your research and follow instructions. You really need to know what is going to happen and ask lots of questions if you need to. I was also impressed that if he can he will answer phone calls or even answer the phone at the office. I was told everything about the surgery and what was expected of me afterward. Out of 10 I would rate Dr. Heap a 10 1/2. Surgical competence was very important to me because if you are going to have a major surgery done you need to trust the surgeon who is performing it. But I also feel he has a good bedside manner.

Dr Heap is a wonderful surgeon. I found him to be kind and caring. I felt very confident that I was in good, skilled experienced hands. It was worth the trip to Tri Cities from Everett to have him be my surgeon. I would recommend him very highly.

Dr. Heap and his staff are pleasant, but there is not any kind of organized before or after surgery care. You definetly have to ask them for anything you think you need. If you need constant care and direction they are not the group for you. If you are like me and like your privacy and like to make your own decisions it works out well.

I have been reading that Dr. Heaps bedside manner is lacking, however once he asked his initial questions, I found him to be very personable. He does have a think english accent and I did find myself asking him to repeat himself....

The ladies in his office were very nice, felt comfortable with them, Jan seems very knowledgable and I know she'll be a great asset in getting things in order.

You know I must say this,, the more information you get on line the better off you will be. Today I went to a recommended support group. I realize that if I didn't do my research I would have been lost,, if your serious about this, do your research,, type in gastric bypass surgery at the search engine and check it out.

Dr Heap is a very competent doctor, and I feel I'm in great hands

4/2/03. My first impression of Dr.Heap was a very interesting one. I thought he would have big fangs and claws, but he turned out to be a very businesslike man. He knew right away that this was my only hope at a "normal" existence. He agreed with my choice to have a duodenal switch. He said it is the "cadillac" of operations. I am so excited. He didn't mess around, just examined me, asked questions, and scheduled me for surgery on 4/18/03. His office staff was cut down to one (very capable) lady, handling everything. She was very personable, I can't wait to go in for the post op appointments.
The only thing that you should know about going into any appointment such as this is: Have your homework done. Know the surgeries, which ones that your doctor performs on a regular basis, which he/she is very comfortable with. This is a difficult operation to perform, but Dr.Heap has performed many of them. I have full confidence in him, now I just need confidence in my body.
Dr.Heap's rating for my consult was very high, I would rate him a 12 out of 10...heehee! I can't wait for him to cut into my guts. I wonder if he will find all of that gum that I swallowed when I was a kid?

Had my consultation with him yesterday. Seemed ok as a person a littel unpersonalble but I think he is very good at what he does which overall is more important to me.

Staff seemed very nice, and overall accomidating.

Senice I am a self pay i just need to call and set the date. He says he will do it whenever I want. Now I just need to come up with the rest of the money.

Initial consult with Dr. Heap on January 21, 2003. Dr. Heap has been doing this for a long time and is very well informed. I guess my fear was being told that I would not qualify for surgery. My bmi is not quite 40 but with co morbid he thought that I would benifit.
He also metioned that he did a mini gastric bypass on his son. I felt that someone who is able to put their feelings aside and do surgery on their own child has a lot of confidence. His staff is helpful, prompt and nice. I expect more aftercare info upon insurance approval. Surgical competence outweighs bedside manner in my book, but I'm sure both are great in this surgeon. Overall rating after first visit, 8.

When I first met Dr. Heap, I was very comfortable with him. He is a little hard to understand, due to his accent. I went in with the idea I had no time to have complications, and that's the way everything went. He is good about answering your questions. He also makes sure you are comfortable in the hospital. I had no problem with his bedside manner. I am glad that his aftercare includes a check every three months for the first year. I think it is important to know how things are going, particularly with the D/S surgery. I have had no problem with his office staff. They have tried to answer any questions I may have. I think Dr. Heap is the best doctor around and the D/S surgery is the best way to go.
For those who plan to see him, make sure you do your research and write down any questions you may have. He really likes people who come prepare to learn and get their questions answered.

It was really important to me that I felt comfortable with him, as my primary doctor would not refer me. I felt like I had to have no problems, in order to show my primary doctor he was wrong, and that I made a good choice.
