I am Paul Cox, a patient of Dr. Heaps. My surgery was March 28, 2008. My wife and I had researched weight loss surgery for nearly 6 months, and had attended some seminars by other bariatric surgeons. We had been disappointed with the answers they gave to our questions about long term side effects and what results to expect. Many answers were so vague that we became uncomfortable. Then we met Dr. Heap. He listened to our questions and was extremely articulate in his answers. The Heap Mini Bypass really made sense, and seems to eliminate many side effects of other bariatric surgerys. Dr. Heap's answers were direct and to the point. He is careful to ask follow up questions to see if you understand him. He puts you at ease with his knowledge and mannerisms. I am 4 months post op and have lost 85+ pounds. I feel great and am looking foreward to a better lifestyle than before. I would highly recomend Dr.Heap to any one looking to have weight loss surgery.

The following written statement is my personal experience and opinion, other's results, experiences and opinions may vary.rnrnI found Dr. Heap was easy to work from the beginning. He actually took the time to meet me on his days off and evaluate my situation.rnrnThe procedure itself went successfully, without complications. The first month after surgery was difficult but that had more to do with being tired and the emotional changes going on. By the week and one day after surgery, I woke up and it was as if someone had flipped a switch. Suddenly, I felt good and all of the emotional things fell away.rnrnAt three months out, Dr. Heap checked me over and took his time discussing my questions so that I had a clear understanding.rnrnI am now just over four months out and have lost 75 lbs. I haven't had any issues with eating, getting sick or dumping. Although I do feel full reallly quickly. rnrnI have recently been losing hair but my general practitioner says that is normal after a significant surgery. Both doctors have assured me the hair will come back, we'll see.rnrnI am currently losing weight at the rate of 2.5 - 3 pounds per week. My goal is to lose a total of 140 pounds from my pre-surgery weight, or about half of who I had become! Dr. Heap said I may not make my goal, based on his patient's average weight loss. I'm reaching for my goal anyway, we'll see.rnrnDr. Heap changed my life and I will be forever grateful. I can't say enough about how wonderful I feel and how great I'm beginning to look. I get tons of compliments every day from everyone who knows me. Everything from, \"Your the incredible shrinking woman,\" to \"You look so much younger!\" It's great.rnrnI have a very good general practitioner and believe this has been invaluable to my health before and especially since my surgery. My general practitioner disagreed with the amount of protein Dr. Heap recommends and has asked me to bump it up from 60 grams per day to 100 grams per day. My G.P. also had me get some blood tests and is keeping a close eye on how my nutrional levels are doing. I get my first blood tests back this week and look forward to discussing them with my G.P. and making any needed modifications.rnrnAll previously written comments are my personal opinion and experience, and may not be what others experience.

I loved Dr Heap! He and Carol are wonderful, and made me feel very comfortable. He was very kind. Dr. Heap spent 2 hours with me, and and answered all of my questions (all 5 pages of them). I knew when i left his office that i had made the right choice.rnrnOne of the things that stood out the most about Dr. Heap was that he honestly seems to care about his patients well being. I felt like I was important. He took the time to get to know me and to understand why this surgery is so important to me. I saw another surgeon about the RNY, and the visit lasted 15 mins and i left feeling bewildered, and like i was just another body to operate on.

He is a great surgeon with much experience. I would like to have had more follow-up care, but realize distance is a major factor(I traveled about 200 miles to his community). If I were to do this again, I would place more emphasis on finding a surgeon closer to where I live. However, I also believe the surgeon's experience in bariatric surgery is of primary importance, and Dr. Heap has top-notch experience. I personally liked him very much, and felt confident in his care.

Dr. Heap is a Great doctor. When I first walked into the room I could just tell that I liked him. After he did my mom's surgery in 2003, I didn't want to go to anyone else! When I went in for my consultation He explained to me that due to my weight I am going to have to have more. He also thought that it would be a good idea that I lose some weight before my surgery only because it would be easier on him and less of a risk due to the anaethisia (sp?) He is very blunt and tells it just like it is. and Carole is wonderful as well! Very friendly and very welcoming!
