I liked him, he was very pleasant and did help me obtain my vitamins and let me make small payments. But that has changed, his office no longer does this.

His entire staff had quit, including his nurse Geraldine and I liked her better than him. He tried to give me Phen Phen when I platued and she said no it would hurt me. Glad I listened to her.

If you choose him, make sure you ask a lot of questions. I did not get the handbook until after I had surgery. I had to go back a year later to remove my galblatter. He also went ahead and did a tummy tuck and I was cut from my breast bone to my pubic area and then a big smiley face across...very attractive. He had me released that same day!! Not a good thing.

He is English, with a dry sence of humor, does not check on his patients at the hospital like he should.

I have contacted Dr. Heap by e-mail and his office by phone. They have been very friendly and helpful. Today I requested an appointment on Dec 7 because Richland is 4-5 hours from me and I am going to be there on Dec 7th anyways. Dr. Heap does not usually schedule appointments on Friday but is going to see me that day since I will be in town anyways. I think it is fantastic that they are willing to schedule me on such short notice and on top of that do it on a day he does not normally see patients!

I just returned from my consult with DR. Heap. I really liked him. He took all the time I needed to answer all my questions. He explained the operation to me. Gave me a booklet to read. Gave me a web site to go into and talk to some of his other patients. I just felt very good about everything when I left his office!

Dr. Heap I cannot say too much about his excellent surgery skills! I have had no complications. The one thing I was disappointed in was I was told he would visit me daily in the hotel when I transferred from the hospital to the hotel and I transferred on Sunday and did not see him till Tuesday. Then I never saw him again till in his office on Thursday although when he left me on Tuesday he said he said, "See you tomorrow". I really wish he had visited me more often in the hotel. especially on Monday as that was my hardest day.
BUT IF YOU ARE SEEKING DS SURGERY I REALLY RECOMMEND DR. HEAP AS THE BEST DS SURGEON!

Dr. Heap is a excellent Physician, he answered all mine and my Husbands questions and concerns he was very open and honest about the surgery. I felt that he really cared about my health and mental well being. His office staff are great they were so helpful and patient with all of my questions and phone calls.

I just had my consult visit with Dr. Heap. We seems like a wonderful person. His office staff was very helpful. I would definitly recommend him to anyone thinking about having this surgery. Like I have read, it's best to come in to his office prepared to ask questions. He addressed all my concerns and questions. I think that his surgical competence seems high.

He seems more interested it money than me. For $150.00 he spent little time with me and was not overly helpful or freindly. I hear he is really good so maybe bed side manner is not important. His staff was friendly and helpful on the phone. After doing some research I found that I had a lot more questions so I called Dr. Heap's office and to my surprise Dr. Heap got on the phone to answer my questions. It impressed me that he took the time to answer instead of leaving it up to one of his staff. I feel so much better after talking to him. I think he really does care about his patients and maybe my first visit was on a bad day.

After reading several comments about Dr. Heap I didn't expect a warm and fuzzy doc when I got there. I did expect someone with an English accent, dry wit, and brief commentary. I have heard such good things about his surgical technique I didn't care if he didn't hug me. When I went to the first appointment, both my friend and I (we are both RNs) felt very pleased with our interaction. He answered every question we presented as thoroughly as we insisted, and gave plenty of time for more that came up. He wasn't hurried, and seemed very relaxed. He explained his reasons for certain surgical techniques which made LOTS of sense. He doesn't do a lot of talking on his own, so come prepared with a list of questions. I had typed one up and he seemed quite impressed with it. I think he responds well to informed patients. After my appointment we went to the hospital he performs surgery at, and went to the cafeteria. We ran into, of all things, a couple RECOVERY ROOM nurses!! They both said he was EXCELLENT technically and really watches out for his patients. (even one who obviously didn't agree with WLS) I got the feeling he may not be the most fun to work with at times but HEY what surgeon is??

Overall I feel very confident in trusting my body to him! I will update after surgery!

I also want to say that his office staff are VERY busy and have not been very good about getting back to me when they said they would. However, when I have been persistant about calling back, all my questions are answered. I think its very important in this day and age of VERY BUSY medical staff to take responsibility for your own stuff. As long as they get the insurance stuff right (which I am following up on) and answer my questions I am happy enough.

POST OP: My respect and warmth for Dr. Heap and his office staff has only increased tremendously since my surgery experience. He was given high marks by many hospital staff, and was very responsive to any pain issues. He is very caring, and VERY VERY good at what he does. I would recommend him to anyone wanting this surgery done well. I will still say that I think he respects his patients more who are motivated to learn all they can about surgery and motivated to take a very active role in their own surgery/recovery process.

In my opinion Dr. Heape is a very business like man. He doesn't seem to have a real good bedside manner. But he does know what he is talking about. My surgery is scheduled for July 16, 2001. His staff is very helpful. I think with Dr. Heape you have to be prepared to ask questions because he doesn't offer them all unless you ask. He gives you the basic information. Thank God I took a friend with me because my mind went blank. He did emphasize the importance of vitamins after surgery. I have my post-op on the 12th. I will present more information after my surgery. But all in all, I would recommend Dr. Heape to anyone needing this surgery.

Dr.Heap doesn't mess around he is in the business of helping people and you don't have to wait 8 months. Also checked his record and in 24 years he has never had a complaint. To me that is really something.

Everything went very well. Still no complaints.

Well I think Dr. Heap did a great job. I am feeling better every day. Still a little pain after I eat which I hope goes away. Went in for my post op appt. and everything is going right.

I enjoyed meeting Dr Heap and didn't have any problems with him or his office staff. They have all been very helpful and I would recommend Dr Heap to anyone interested in this surgery.
