Mischelle, Hi, just a quick comment to say I know you will get through this! My surgeon also kept me off liquids/food, ANYTHING by mouth for two weeks after my RNY. It wasn't as hard as you might think. I did get to brush my teeth! LOL I do think it helps your new tummy heal nice and strong. So, keep your chin up and remember we all hit some bumps in the road. Always, CC

I just came home from the hospital. Mischelle had to have emergency surgery. What the doctors first thought was pneumonia, turned out to be a leak!! They said that she had about a quart or so of pus and infection in her abdominal cavity. The surgeon said that she came through this second surgery well, but that she will have a long, slow recovery. He could not repair the leak with sutures, he said it was better to let "Mother Nature" repair it, so she has two drains draining the wound. He also left her incision open (at the skin level) to avoid further infections. Mischelle will not be able to eat or drink anything for several weeks. The doctor feels she will probably remain in the hospital for at least another 2 to 3 weeks!!! She has already been there a week. He says he thinks that she'll pull through this okay but there is a good chance for other complications because of this as well. So PLEASE keep Mischelle and her family in your daily prayers!!! Also, if you can, please drop a little note in the mail to her. It might help to raise her spirits since she will have to be in the hospital so long. Thanks!
