Hi everyone. I'm really sorry I haven't updated in so long. The good news is I'm actually typing this from work! I have lots of news so sit back or skip over, your choice. So, last Monday I began to have persistent vomitting. To the point where I wasn't even keeping water down. So the Dr. prescribed Carafate to "soothe the pouch". It actually works pretty well. However, I continued to vomit several times a day and wasn't getting any protein in. I saw the dr. on Wednesday and he opened up my incision because of the drainage (which had continued). So now I'm packing it open and changing the dressing twice a day (oh joy). Well, while I was there I told him I was having lots of dizzyness and not getting any protein in. He said not to worry about it because he was putting me on real food (mush) anyway and I wouldn't need the protein drinks any more.

So finally after three weeks I'm allowed to eat food and it's the last thing I want. I have noooo desire to eat. I was thirsty though. Seemed like I couldn't drink enough. I was worried about over doing it though and drinking too much and having it come back up so I was sipping, but not enough. So, Friday I started dehydrating and Saturday my dad took me to the ER. I was very dehydrated. They pumped three liters of fluid into me, which was very helpful. The poor nurses were so clueless about my procedure though. My potassium was low so they brought me several potassium capsules. Huge capsules, so I said, I can't take those. So he took them away but he didn't ask why. Then he came in with eight ounces of orange juice with potassium in it. I said "Am I supposed to drink all of this?" and he said yes and I said no way and I could tell he was getting annoyed. So as he was walking me to the restroom I explained that I had this surgery that I really only had a one ounce stomach and that I was not just being difficult. So he tried mixing the potassium stuff in water. That's gotta be the nastiest stuff I've ever tasted. So I tried to drink a lot of it and was drinking a lot of water in between to kill the taste and then they wanted me to take an antibiotic and then it was time for a pain pill and that pushed my poor pouch over the edge and I hurled it all up. It was a fun night. So anyway, I got rehydrated and that was good. We decided that the Percocet was causing the nausea so I've stopped taking it completely and sure enough, I'm not having nausea. However, I am in pain. Some of it is indigestion, my bowels seem to be in a permanent state of distress, but I think some of it is real post-op pain. The water is staying down, but I'm not getting anywhere near enough protein in. So, that's the update. This is the good/bad/ugly of it all. oh, one more thing, I'm officially down 27 pounds, so there is some good news. :) I appreciate all the email and phone calls. Sorry I'm not responding as much, but I appreciate them none the less.
