Cleveland Clinic (foundation) (COE) Hospital

I would recommend the Bariatric and Metabolic Institute at CCF to anyone considering WLS. It has been an easy experience. The staff are highly professional, caring and supportive. Appointments are scheduled well in advance and the doctors usually keep to the scheduled times...very little waiting time! I am beyond happy with my experience.

My RNY is scheduled for next week. When I get home, I will complete the questions about the stay. I think the CCF team is fantastic! At first, the only reason I was going to use this program was because I'm employed there. My insurance will only cover surgery performed at CCF. But after having attended the information seminar, having had several appointments with various members of the team, I believe this is the best decision for me. I've emailed my psychologist, Dr. Heinberg, and dietitian, Lauren Sullivan, on separate occasions with questions. They have always responded promptly and courteously.
They have chairs and beds that fit obese people. The staff are very friendly, and I know of at least two of the staff having had the surgery in the past. The support group is accommodating. So far, I have no real complaints.
The only problem, as I see it, is that some of the waiting time for appointments can be long, especially medical and surgeon.

They didn't have a room for me and left me in recovery for 1.5 days. There was no call button to get assistance and they were so short staffed I had to pinch off my IV to get help. There were not enough staff to help me get up and walk like I was suppose to. And I had an allergic reaction to my pain meds and they didn't address it until the second day when I was finally in my regular room!

The whole process works like a well oiled machine. It is especially nice that when you go for appointments you stay in one room and the people come to you. The hospital is very large and you have to go to many different areas of the hospital. I would suggest that 'Transport' could be better as I had to wait a number of times for extended periods of time. The other thing that I would recommend is that transport after surgery from hospital to accomodations on the campus be done by a van and not the buses. It was extremely painful to get on and off the shuttles.
