Barix Clinics Hospital

My experience with this hospital was outstanding. Initially, because I was an older patient (59), I had some concern about the hospital's ability to manage serious medical emergencies that could arise as a result of the surgery/anesthesia; however, my concerns were allayed by the careful, conservative practices of the surgeon and the hospital.

I called up and spoke to someone on the phone. They were all fine and nice once they found out my insurance was one that they siad would pay for this procedure. At first, it seemed O.K. They sent out the paperwork and I looked everything over. I called the day before my consult (they charge 90.00 for a consult), to confirm they took my insurance -- and when I told her again it was Aetna HMO, the lady said Ohhh... we don't take Aetna HMO, I remined her that that is not what she said on the phone before. She insisted she did and said she is cancelling my appointment and she hung up. What a rude bunch of people they are and thank goodness I did not go there. In my reading here at obesityhelp.com, I have read very similar things about this place. I found another doctor in my area, Dr. Greenberg at Albert Einstein Healthcare Center and I now I am waiting for my surgery date, CONCLUSION: Keep looking for another place to do your surgery -- or make sure they do take your insurance before you go; I bet you'll be in for a big dissapointing suprise.

This is by far the BEST place to have this done. I have never reveived so much care and attention to my needs and my wifes needs while in thier care. Everything was great. You could not ask for anything more. I waited almost a year to have my surgery due to insurance red tape and it was well worth the wait. I could have gone to a local Dr. and had it done with in 3 months. I am glad I waited!!!!! My wife is haveing her WLS next year. Spend the $$$ for the consult you won't be disappointed!!!!! Good luck to all of you searching....Greg

Today is October 25, 2003. I am scheduled for surgery on November 4, 2003. I am very excited, but getting nervous. I had my pre admission testing on Wednesday. The entire staff was extremely friendly. I felt very comfortable the entire time I was there on Wednesday. Majority of the time when I go somewhere new, I feel very embarrassed and out of place. Not at BTC. I think the staff does everything possible to make you feel comfortable, from the receptionist when you first come in the door, all the different techs, right down to the last person you see, the R.N. to make sure all of your questions have been answered. I am confident that the hospital staff will be the same. I read the reviews on this page and have not read any complaints about hospital staff. I am confident that this will be the answer for me. I am ready to start a new life full of happiness and Joy. I think my husband and three children are as excited as I am! I will let you know how everything went in a few weeks.
11-11-03 I filled in the rest of the blanks now that I am post-op. The BTC was wonderful. I can not think of anything I would have wanted done differently. The entire staff was so attentative and comforting. I would recommend this facility to anyone serious about WLS. It is a three and a half hour trip from my house but I did not care, it was totally worth every mile!!
