My first impression of Dr B, is that I was in the prescence of a person who was confident in his ability and he beleived in what he does. He was very thoughful, concerned, took his time and answered questions and made sure I understood.rnrn The office staff was gracious, helpful, very friendly in trying to accomodate. Its my asessment he has assembled a strong team to support his large clientel. There was nothing I liked least about him. Yes he has a structured after care program, monthly support meetingh, he also requests you come in on a schedule until your a year out. They want to ensure labs are on target.rnrnPart of his aftercare includes his Internal DR, Thompson, who was equally informative and patient, nice sense of humor, all of them seem to work in synch together like a fine oiled machine. Risks were address'd, he didnt didnt harp on the risks as some DR's, just enough, rate him and his staff a 10. I have not had my surgery yet, for the last question surgical competence, is priority , however its WONDERFUL if your SURGEON takes out time to talk with you as the process moves along....after care will remain to be seen...hopefully as good as the pre- visits

MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF MY SURGEON IS THAT HE WAS VERY INFORMATIVE-I DIDNT HAVE ANY QUESTIONS BECAUSE HE ANSWERED THEM ALL UP FRONT. rnrnTHE OFFICE STAFF IS VERY WELCOMING-THEY MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE NO QUESTION IS TO SILLY AND THAT THEY WILL BE THERE FOR YOU BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY.rnrnFUTURE PATIENTS OF DR. BARKER SHOULD KNOW THAT HE KNOWS WHATS BEST-HE ADVICED ME ON WHAT I WOULD HERE AND WHAT I SHOULD KNOW FOR MYSELF AND MY SURGURY.rnrnTHE RISK OF SURGURY WAS STRESSED AT EVERY VISIT-NO SURPRISES BECAUSE THEY KEEP YOU VERY INFORMED THOUGHOUT THE WHOLE PROCESS.rnrnI RATE MY DOCTOR AS A ABOVE AND BEYOND-NO BIG SEMINAR WITH PEOPLE AND A BUNCH OF PAPER WORK JUST A ONE ON ONE WITH THE MAN WHO WILL CHANGE MY OUTLOOK ON LIFE AND I VALUE THAT!rnrnDR.BARKER GAVE ME SURGICAL COMPETENCE AND A POSITIVE BEDSIDE MANNER.HES A GREAT PERSON FIRST WHO JUST HAPPENS TO BE A SURGEON!rn

Dr. Barker and his entire staff is very proffessional and polite. Dawn is amazing and my biggest Cheerleader and wants me to succeed and noone talked down to me if i didn't loose enough or gained a lb. Very informative when it comes to concerns and risks. Dr. Barker's only flaw so far is the long wait at the office. i have sat there for hours on end before but worth it to know i'm in good hands. I really can't say anythign negative about anything other than the wait in the office. rnrnrnrnrnrnI'm very happy with Dr. Barker i'm only one month out right now but all is well.

I first heard about Dr. Barker on TV. He is well known in the DFW area. Upon my first visit with him, after a 4 hour wait, seemed impersonal which really surprised me since his staff is so super nice! He wasn't rude or anything like that, just "got the job done". I also have to say that for whatever reason, I was super nervous! After discussions about hiatal hernia repair and the gastric sleeve option, all my additional pre-op tests were scheduled. It all ran like clockwork but the only other time I ever saw Dr. Barker was the day of my EGD test for 30 sec. before I was out. I didn't even get to see him before surgery and I certainly didn't see him after! He has a wonderful staff at the hospital and a wonderful aftercare doctor that saw me many time during my 3 day stay.

My impressions of Dr. Barker are lukewarm but I absolutely love his staff! They have been on the phone with me several times and helped me through a few "insurance obstacles". I am one week out and had my FU yesterday. I saw a different doctor even for that. He was great too, but, I'm disappointed how distant Dr. Barker stays from his patients.

Had to go through 2 other surgeons to finally find the one for me! Dr Barker is wonderful, has a GREAT reputation and a caring, funny bedside manner. Of course his surgical expertise is the most important thing and he has an impressive reputation and LOTS of patients, and so far I don't feel like just $$$$$$$ to him.rnrnrnrnrnrn

Dr. Barker is a great guy. He says what he needs to say and what you need to hear. He's a confident guy because he's confident in what he does. He did a great job with me and I have lost 240lbs so far in less than 2 years. He's a very caring guy too, and was truly concerned about my health and wanted me to do great. He's confortable to be around and has a great staff. I love everyone there, they were all so nice.rnrnThe Office was crowded and there was a long wait but when it is your turn you are focused on and they do not rush you. Also there is a TV or two mounted on the wall with a movie playing while you wait. They make sure to ask if you have questions, and they tell you what you need to do.rnrnFor others who are going here, they take a Before picture of you so be sure to wear something nice. Not sure when but I don't think they do it on the first consult. Then again I may be wrong!

My first impression of him was nice and he was very calm person. I think that he stayed calm and that his staff were very helpful. I almost think that all of them were very nice and personable. The only thing that I did not like about Dr. Barkers office at that time was that the wait was long he had so many patience that it was just uncomfortable to even go to an office visit but I haven't been in about two years but I will on Tuesday 06/16/2009 and I will let you know. Also, at that time he did not do te fills but now he does so I'm very excited about my next visit. He answered all of my questions and he addressed that the lap band in African American women was not as sucessful than the gastric but it was my choice he did not try to persuade to go either way. My family met him and thought that he was a very nice man. I have nothing but praise to give him because I have had a very good experience with him. I hadn't had any complications with my band and I had other doctors say that he was a good doctor and to me that says a lot.

Like most I am sure... my first impression of him was how good looking he was..that impression has not changed. His office staff is nice. He only sees patients 2 days a week and overbooks so be ready to watch at least 1 or 2 movies on his flatscreen while u wait.rnI have been very impressed with Dr. B, Kevin, Dawn, Dana and his internist Dr.? I have no doubt Dr. Barker is highly trained and experienced so I'm putting my life in his mortal hands. To answer the question which is better.. surgical competence or bedside manner..surgical competence for sure. Nobody has ever died from a bad bedside manner. I will update my opinion of his aftercare after my surgery.

I had doctor Barker. He is very kind and my first impression was great. His office staff is wonderful. He knows what he is doing and his success rate is extremly high around 99.9%. You can not beat that. Between him and his whole staff I believe he would be hard to beat. I would rate him as A+.
