My Dr answered all my questions. I had a lot since I am needing a revision, RE: stapling in 87. He was kind and honest. The staff was awsome. My husband and I are both having surgery and they are letting us do it all together.

I have had two appts with my surgeon, Dr. Wade Barker. He is very knowledgeable (thank goodness) and barriatrics are his speciality. He is personable, patient, friendly and seems to really care and understand. I have spoken with numerous patients of his and everybody seems to really love him. After surgery, I'm sure I will have more to add.

Dr. Barker is a very handsome and nice surgeon who knows whats he is doing.. Specially when it comes to getting the right paperwork to get approved by your insurance by the help of his lovely staff who worked really close with me on any issues I have.

Dr. Barker is a very good surgeon. He is, however, very popular and so very busy. His office is always full. His staff is always busy. But, even still, they take the time to answer your questions no matter how simple they may seem. Dr. Barker has managed to get a great staff together. They seem to work well together. I always enjoy visiting them. The office itself is very nice, well decorated and comfortable. There are some really cool paintings. Take a close look at them when you are there. Look at the signature. As for Dr. Barker himself, I have had a few complications. Dr. Barker wound up doing 3 surgeries for me in total. I would not have gone anywhere else. I have complete trust in him. He's got a good sense of humor, which to me is important to help you through a stressful situation. Like any other surgery, you should do your leg work before visiting your surgeon and have your questions ready. Dr. Barker also has support group meetings for those interested.

The first time I met Dr Barker was at one of his WLS seminars @ Pine Creek. My sister had heard about it and signed us up. I was very impressed with the sincerity Dr Barker displayed in genuinely trying to make life better for those who are overweight. I have had a few appointments with Dr Barker so far, and my impression is still the same. I feel that does a good job of explaining the details of the procedure, but doesn't pressure the patient in any way to do one procedure over another. I liked this, because it let me explore within myself what option I felt was best for me. He did explain why he felt RNY was better than Lap Band, but said that he would do both, if I chose one over the other. After research, I decided that better results are achieved with RNY. Dr Barker doesn't stress going to the aftercare meetings, but does impress upon the value the support groups bring to each persons individual success. I do wish that he had a more developed aftercare program, with individualized nutritionist, etc. The doctor's office went over the risks from a sheet of paper; most of the risks just appear to be somewhat similar to almost any risks involved in surgery in general. I haven't had my surgery yet, so I can't comment on bedside manner within the surgery/hospital setting. It seems so far that he just gets to the medical issues and moves on. Not a lot of social discussions. He has a very busy office, I am sure he has to be prompt, courteous in order to get moving to the next patient. The waits at his office have been rather long, but his office is comfortable and there is always a movie showing. So, just come prepared to relax and think about the questions you have for him, this will help ease the frustrations of waiting for so long. I am very happy that I chose Dr Barker. I just felt a connected sense that he is the surgeon who I wanted to put my life in his care. In addition, I discussed him and the surgery with 4 of my other doctors and they all and all felt I was making a good choice. I have had two follow ups now. Dr Barker and his team are simply the BEST!!! I love they way they make me feel important, even when they are swamped. Dr Barker is much more personable than I ever realized.

I absolutely LOVE Dr. Barker! The original surgeon I chose for my procedure went out of business. In a crunch to find another, I got on O.H. and wrote down several surgeons in my area. The first three offices that I called were very rude and made me feel uncomfortable that I ended up hanging up on 2 of them. Then, I called Dr. Barker and his office was just absolutely amazing! I had no idea where to start this journey and they were so sweet to take the time and explain everything to me. It was simple all I had to do was schedule and appointment for the next week and off I went! I met with Barker and we discused my options of lap-band vs. gastric and gastric was what I originally wanted and got. He discussed the mechanics of the surgery, what to expect and went over any questions. His office staff took care of my insurance and I got my approval in an easy 4 weeks! After my approval I went in for my pre-op appointment a week later to schedule surgery and then just one week later I had surgery! WOW! I had Lap RNY and my surgery went very well, healing time was super quick (back to work in 2 weeks) and my incisions are very small. Dr. Barker and his staff have made themselves very easily available at all hours to answer any questions or concerns and I have recommended him to everyone I talk to about this procedure.

First impression was that he was very personable and made me feel at ease. I saw him at both my pre-op consultations and he came to see me before my EGD procedure. He also spoke with my husband after the EGD and the surgery.rnrnI would have liked to see him at my post-op visit one week after my surgery.rnrnHis office staff is great, although I was not impressed by his assistant, Bobby. Bobby went over the risks with me at my second pre-op consult and all he did was read off a piece of paper. He was not able to answer my questions. I also saw him on my post-op visit and again was not able to satisfactorily answer my questions.rnrnFuture patients should know he is VERY BUSY and not always accessible.rnrnHe does have a structured aftercare program but these are not all handled by him or his office. I think that he should have a post-op visit one month after surgery -- not 3 months.rnrnThe risks were covered by his assistant, Bobby (see above).rnrnOverall, I was very pleased and would recommend him.rnrnI believe a combination of surgical competence and bedside manner are equally important. Dr. Barker has, without a doubt, the surgical competence; and he is very warm and compassionate -- he just needs to remember to make time to visit with his patients after the surgery.rnrnI am not familiar with other patients of Dr. Barker, so these are just my own impressions.

My first impression was that he was/is nice. He is definately is straight forward but I liked that because I am that way. His office staff is great, all the ladies are extremely nice and helpful. You can tell at times it is hectic there, with all the paitents. But his staff has always been nice and apologetic anytime I had to wait. I love Dr. Gare, he is the reason my surgery was approved. I went there with the intention on having the LapBand but both Dale and Dr. Barker showed me the benefits to the bypass and eased my fears. Dr. Barker and his staff are a winning team. The only complaint I had is the long wait-time, but in the end it was worth it.

Dr. Barker is a very serious guy who has too many people to see in a short period of time. He went over the risk of surgery and aftercare. However, he puts allot of people on his surgery schedule in one day, guess that was the end of year insurance rush. rnrnHis office staff is GREAT, GREAT, GREAT. I did not see the doctor for my follow up appointment because he was in surgery, his wonderful nurse took out my staples. Then his staff set me up for a 3 month visit. I thought I would come back for a 1 month follow up, but that is not how he works. I get the feeling that Dr. Barker surgical competence is GREAT, his bedside manner is short, quick and to the point; oh and he will not let you stay in the hospital more than 24 hours after surgery regardless of what your insurance has approved you for. rnrnI hope with his years in the this business Dr. Barker will begin to mellow and slow down to enjoy the world that is around him. It would be ashame if he kept him self so busy he let's it pass him by.
