Hi DEB, I have important info for you. I have the same problem and am opting to have the anethesiologist put in a central line while I'm out. Now, you do have to go through the initial finding of a vein for them to start anesthsia, but if you get the line in, all of your bloodwork can come from that line, as well as your meds going in. That way, you dont have a problem with a vein going bad and they have to find a new one. I had this the last time I had surgery and it was a dream. I didn't have to dread those early morning blood work visits everyday I was in the hospital. If you need more info email me. Bottom line, my surgeon says if I want a central line, all I do is tell the anesthesiologist before surgery. GOod Luck ,oh and ps,they can give you a shot of novacaine to make the locating of the first vein easier.
