Hello Deb~~~~~~~~What terrible timing.....some people just have no concept of what people do for them. I had a friend do the same thing to me after I stood by her side for two years after her husband died at the age of 52. She had the gall to tell me I didin't know how to be a friend. So I understand a little what you are going through without being four weeks post~op though. You are in my thoughts and prayers. If I had a car and lived closer I would come help you. PEACE

Hi Deb...........When it rains it pours. Bless your heart! But seriously, you can do it. First off the woman taking your blood was painfully unaware about surgery. The doc couldn't get a drop out of my arms for my surgery. It was wrists or nothing which is unacceptable for surgery so what they do is put you to sleep and once you've gone nighty night, they put an IV line into your neck. Easy and you won't feel a thing. It feels a little weird coming out but it's not painful. Secondly, that rental idea was a great one but if you can't afford it just pile up the pillows on your couch and you can sleep practically sitting up. That's what I'm doing right now cause I don't want a recliner. I hope I've been of some help. God Bless :)

Hi Deb, Wow.. your life sounds like mine.. when it rains it pours.. But eventually the wind blows the clouds away! A few helpful thoughts for you, My daughter had a major surgery in John Hopkins Hospital in 95. It is a great hospital but located in one of the worst neighborhoods you will ever see. But the hospital and staff are great. As far as a recliner.. have you ever considered renting one for a few weeks. There is a company in that area called Rent a Center. They carry a great recliner that has massage and heat too. It costs me 24 bucks a week. Very comfy, and you don't need a down payment or credit kind of thing. It might help you. Rent a center is a national company with locations all over. We used to live in the Baltimore area so I know they are there. The web site is rentacenter.com.. Hope this helps.. keep the faith, all these problems shall pass and life will be good again!

Hi DEB, I have important info for you. I have the same problem and am opting to have the anethesiologist put in a central line while I'm out. Now, you do have to go through the initial finding of a vein for them to start anesthsia, but if you get the line in, all of your bloodwork can come from that line, as well as your meds going in. That way, you dont have a problem with a vein going bad and they have to find a new one. I had this the last time I had surgery and it was a dream. I didn't have to dread those early morning blood work visits everyday I was in the hospital. If you need more info email me. Bottom line, my surgeon says if I want a central line, all I do is tell the anesthesiologist before surgery. GOod Luck ,oh and ps,they can give you a shot of novacaine to make the locating of the first vein easier.
