Mercy Health Center Hospital

Mercy's Surgical Weight Loss program is in its infancy stage. It will be a great program. Marilyn Minter is the Program Coordinator & she is on top of what needs to happen to make what is now a strong, "good" program, a great one. My biggest gripe was w/the hospital staff who assist w/the post-op testing necessary after RNY. They kept insisiting I was to "drink" things, when my Dr. had specifically told me NOT to drink anything as he administers the required contrasts via IV or NG / not orally. I had to be a very verbal advocate for myself on two occasions in the XRay & the CAT Scan departments. It was very frustrating as I was quite ill, a bit "out of it" on pain meds, and really not enjoying arguing w/lots of "badges" about what I KNEW my treatment plan was to be! I stood my ground, much to their chagrin, and eventually my doctor appeared to confirm what I had previously explained to them about RNY patients and oral application of medications post operatively. Most of the RNs & CNAs were great. Nutrition did not have a clue what to put on a food tray for a RNY patient on clear liquids. Kept trying to send sugary things my way . . . STOP! Anyhow, they'll figure it out. Overall, Mercy is well on its way to a top-notch program. Dr. Cullen is a very skilled surgeon, and a caring doctor.
