Michael Walters Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

I'd rate him as a 10 for bedside manner while I was in the hospital and for all my post op follow ups. He seems to warm up a little more when he knows you are committed to this lifestyle. He is an exceptional surgeon and Glenda and Annie is his office are very helpful and understanding.
Dr Walters office sent me an information packet about a week after i initially called them to set the appointment. That gave me a big boost towards researching my procedure. Dr Walters himself is a nice guy, seems concerned with his patients, but can come across a little "rough". To me anyway. He would ask a question and wanted the answer, not a story about the answer. Very yes or no only. Has a great sense of humor and took time to answer my questions as stupid as i'm sure i sounded at times. Right now, i's rate him a 9.

I had my first initial appointment with Dr. Walters many months ago. Waiting to have surgery I have had some things to overcome. First of all, my insurance has bariatric surgery as a specific exclusion to my coverage. I am paying on my own. When I went to have all of my pre-op work done, Dr. Walters called to tell me that I had to get my hypothroid condition under control for six months before he would perform the surgery. I now have my date scheduled for December 16, and I am ready to go. Dr Walters is amazing and caring and understanding. I feel very confident with him as my surgeon. His office staff is great too. I will update after surgery.

Dr. Walters is a very knowledgeable doctor. I was referred to him by a friend. It took a very long time for my first appoitment. About 3 months.
Meeting with him was a learning experiance. He is very cut and dry. He only wants the answers to the questions that he asks. He doesn't want the story behind the answer. I found this to be a little abrasive because I wanted him to know a little bit more about me and my experiance, but I have complete faith in him.
Annie and Glenda are really wonderful. I felt like they were on my side.

In my opinion, Dr. Walters is a no nonsense doctor. I found him here on this webb site. He is a retired surgeon from the military, so expect him to be very blunt and to the point. I highly recommend him because he has done this for 20 years and is improving it all the time. His aftercare is wonderful. Though I have just had the surgery, and have been back to have my staples removed, he cares. He just cares. You can see it and feel it within his office. He works with you to get your diet in check and will not stop until he and you are one with it.Dr. Walters went over all of the pros and cons for this kind of surgery, some were scary, some were not. But to have this kind of surgery, of course it will be scary!
He does epxlain every aspect of the proceedure, what he moves around, what might be taken out (mine, gallbladder). His bedside manner could be softer but ya know what, he is still ok in my book. Thank you Dr. Walters!

Impressed with knowledge, bedside manner the fact he spent almost 2 hours visting with my husband and I about the VBG surgery procedure and how it differed from others and why this was the only type of surgery he performs.
My impression has not changed at this time.
Annie and Glenda are extremely polite. The office staff as well as Dr. Walters, make you feel they geniunely care about what your seeking to do regarding surgery.
Haven't found anything to like least about Dr. Walters at this time. His handout explains the process after surgery and what my responsibility will be. He is there to answer my questions, but the "get in there" do as he says is up to me. Following his directions after surgery will make aftercare much more tolerable.
There are risks in any surgery. This is just plain and simple. His approach was to make us aware and ask if we had any questions. He did not belabor the issue of risks. Taking medication has risks and if we dwell on it, we will never take some of it.
Surgical competence and bedside manner are both important. My first experence with a previous doctor a year ago, left me wanting nothing to do with surgery or doctors. I had the same family doctor or over 40 years. When he died it was like a member of my family died. I haven't felt about another doctor that way until Dr. Walters.

dr michael walters is my surgeon & is he a very well educated. he knows his stuff, i was very impressed with him. he takes his time to explain everything, answer any questions you may have & lighten the air a little with his humor. i will be seeing him in a couple of days for my pre-op & six days later my surgery, i'll fill you in after to let you know how it goes. say a little prayer for me guys.

Dr. Walters gave a very information lecture prior to meeting with me one on one. He is easy to understand and didn't bowl you over with a lot of complicated information. He was upfront on the risks and complications with the surgery as well as the part you have to play to make the process a success. His office staff is wonderful. Glenda and Annie were very helpful in getting the information ready for the insurance approval.

So far I have made an initial appointment with Dr. Walters, My appointment is in July. My encounter on the phone with Dr. Walters office was great, I spoke to Annie who said they would do everything they could to get approval from my insurance. I have received the package they send out and it is very interesting, it explains all about Dr. Walters and what he expects of you, how eating will change after the surgery, and he expects to follow up with you for at least 3 years after surgery. So far, I am impressed.

Dr. Walters is very nice, likes to talk about the surgery and his ideas about it. Staff friendly. Has a good sinse of humor, was patient with my family and their questions as well as mine. Aftercare is stressed. I'd give Dr. Walters and his staff an overall of 9 (out of 10),
His post-op instructions are a little vague, which may be good for some, but I would like more specific diet ideas.
