Follow-Up
Jun 13, 2009
Saw doc last Tuesday and luckily my esophagus was back to its normal size thank goodness. I immediately felt better after all the fluid was removed during the previous visit and I haven't thrown it up since which proved that the thing was tooo tight! It felt good to eat normally and not have to chew forever with really small bites. My weight was going up and down in the last couple of months depending on what I was eating or whether I not I was exercising. I can still fit all of my size 12s comfortably and that's what's important. If I lose these last ten pounds or ever fit into a size 10 one day that would be cool but my main objective from now on is to maintain my weight and clothing size. The doctor told me it is possible my esophagus would stretch again if im not careful and gave me 1.5 cc of fluid and said I should no longer worry about restriction at this point but gave me the fill so I am not as hungry all the time and to help stop the weight I am putting on. I honestly have not gained a lot of weight because went I went to see him in April I was losing because I could not eat all all due to the reflux. Things have been so good so far.....I am no longer starving when I go to bed and I make sure all of my meals fit on a small plate with no 2nd helpings. The doc also stated my insurance would pay to have the band removed but would not cover a revision surgery since I am no longer morbidly obese. My frture options are to remove the band altogether if I continue to have complications or remove the band and self pay for a gastric sleeve. I am not sure what I will do at this point but no matter what I promised myself I will never weigh as much as I did before. I realize I had really unhealthy eating habits before and now I understand how I got that big in the 1st place and fortunately learned new ways to eat and exercise.

Complications....
Apr 17, 2009
I went to see doc yesterday due to problems with reflux and the band getting really tight in the last few weeks. The fluro x-ray revealed the band to be in the right spot however my esophagus was stretched or dilated. He advised his fill guy to completely remove all of my fluid in the band, gave me some meds called kapidex, told me to drink fluids only for the next few days and to see him again in a month to see if my esophagus has returned back to its normal size. When I asked him how this could have happened (overeating or too much vomiting) he really didn't give a clear answer and just said sometimes it's a side effect of the band. The fill guy also told me he removed 3.8 cc from the band which really upset me because the last time I saw him in November I was told I had 3.4cc and he removed .2 cc which should have left 3.2 cc in the band. I am so upset trying to figure out if the overfill caused the problem or if it was caused by my own actions…..this is so frustrating.

The holidays were hell. I feasted to my hearts delight and ate all the cookies, cakes and stuffing I wanted. I was weighing 179 lbs for 1 day then went back up to 186 lbs right around Christmas. Now that the new year is here I really need to get back on track. I am a snacker and now when I go to the store I no longer buy the family sized bags of chips and try to stock up on the healthier snacks. I also eat from smaller plates and make sure I drink enough water. The scale read 177 lbs this morning and I was so happy because it seemed like I would be in the 180s forever. My biggest problem is exercise because I use to get up early in the morning to exercise but since I usually don't get enough sleep I will stay in the bed until its too late to do anything but get ready for work and my boy ready for school. I really need to stop making excuses and just do it. I know I can only get to goal and maintain it if I exercise. My size 12 jeans and Large shirts are getting loose and I can't even fathom wearing size 10 jeans! I use to wear tight size 26/28!!! This is so amazing and I am so thankful. I am always staring in the mirror in disbelief and when I go shopping I have to remember I no longer have to shop in the plus size or women's section. I cut up my Lane Bryant card and plan to go to Forever 21 and New York and Co to do some shopping. These are stores I use to pass by in the mall thinking they won't have anything to fit me.....now I just have to see for myself lol! Peace and love and thank goodness for the lapband.

In July I got a fill and had a total of 3.4 cc in the 4cc band. For the last 3 months I have had constant episodes of PBing but I figured I was not chewing well enough or eating too fast. I would go several days without any problems then it would start all over again. I developed reflux at night and could not eat too late and my 1st meal of the day had to be in the late afternoon. Yesterday I went back to the doc and got 0.2cc removed (the amount I had before the final fill) and I feel better already. I also had a fluro done and luckily the band is still in place and all is well. Never ever keep a too tight fill....its miserable.....on a lighter note I'm only 15 lbs from goal! My current weight is 179lbs!!!!!

I went to get a 6th fill yesterday and I now have 3.4 cc in the 4 cc band. I stepped on the scale today and it read 199.8 lbs. I haven't seen this weight for over 8 years and I am so happy. I want to lose about 25 more lbs or maybe more depending on how my skin holds up. So far so good.
4th Fill
Apr 16, 2008
I went in for my 4th fill yesterday and I now have 3.0 cc in my band. The fill guy finally confirmed the band holds 4.0 cc or more if needed. I am down to 228 lbs so I celebrated by going to Kohl's for clothes I really need. Still not a lot to chose from, but I bought a pair of slacks (size 18) and 2 tops (1X or 18/20). I stopped exercising daily and switched to every other day and know I need to focus on more cardio and weight lifting to build muscle. Hopefully this fill will give me the restriction I need to reach my goal.
3rd Fill
Mar 01, 2008
I went for my 3rd fill 3 days ago and now I have 2.7 cc in my 9.75 band. The surgeon's assistant said I was doing great since I lost 5 lbs since my last fill one month ago but I didn't think that was so great. He reminded me that with the band typical losers will lose 3-5 lbs a month and that I should not return for another fill until I stop losing. The following day I went and got 2 wisdom teeth pulled (since I was on liquids only for the next 2 days) and I was really sick from the pain medicine. I couldn't hold down any food for the rest of the day. I weighed myself this morning and the scale read 235 which means I have lost 4 or 5 lbs in the last few days. I really need to try and stay on track if I want to lose a total of 100 lbs by my anniversery date. The only downside to losing weight is not being able to update my wardrobe so often.
2nd Fill
Jan 23, 2008
I went in for my second fill yesterday so now I have a total of 2.2 cc in my 9.75 band. I have lost a total of 51 lbs. I didn't do so well over the holidays. I didn't overeat but I no longer have any restriction with bread so I started to eat it again. I know I eat way too many cookies, cakes, chips, and fried foods. Not as much as I use to eat before surgery but I really need to limit or omit these foods altogther. My exercise is going great. I exercise daily when I get out of bed and always take the stairs. I hope this 2nd fill takes me back to the level of restriction I had a few months after surgery. My next fill is scheduled for next month.
