Hi! I am Brenda, a 64 year-old-wife, mother, aunt, daughter, sister, etc. We live in the country near Miles, TX. Most of my life I have been overweight but especially after I married at 20. Birth control pills, in the habit of cooking for several people and now only two, plus being able to eat as much as I wanted contributed to a rapid weight gain. Two pregnancies added more weight. Many diets over the years took off some weight but it always came back in spades. Before I was diagnosed with DM II, I lost about 80 pounds. Oh boy, how nice but then it all came back and more when I started taking meds. Insulin only helped put on more. Now I have severe chronic kidney failure and bariatric surgery could be my last chance to stave off dialysis. There are some other comorbidities too that I am hoping RNY will help. My surgery is scheduled for August 12 in Houston, TX. Since I am high risk, my internist wanted me to go to a surgeon who treated high risk patients. He had recommended this surgery a few years ago while I was still working, but insurance would not pay and I did not feel we could afford it. Now I have to do it, and thank God, our insurance will pay a large portion.
Most of my family are also obese. My husband and children are also overweight. Hopefully, I will be an inspiration to all to take care of themselves while they can and put off sickness. It will be so nice to go without so much medicine and be able to walk without pain and shortness of breath. I am looking forward to a better, healthier life where food will be to keep me alive, not my life.
May God bless each of you. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Brenda
