Mary - So sorry to hear that you have had complications, but also glad to hear that the problem has been discovered and taken care of. Just remember, if God brings you to it, he will bring you through it. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Quick update- Mary wanted everyone to know that she doesn't think the blood was from nicking something during the initial surgery.

Hi All, Just another Mary update.... The Surgery went well on Tuesday. The fluid they found in her lung cavity was blood. The blood had clotted and was scabbing over, which prevented her left lung from inflating. The Dr's. removed all the blood and her lung inflated. Mary spent Tuesday night in the ICU being monitored. Wednesday she did not leave the ICU as expected because there was no room available on the surgery recovery floor. Thursday morning her hematocrit levels were low so a blood transfusion was required. Mary is suppose to be transferred to a room today, (Thursday), and I will give another update with her new info as soon as I get it. Tim (her hubby)

*update on Mary* I spoke with Mary on the phone this morning. She sounded groggy but she should be improving daily and be able to leave on Sunday. They did a three hr surgery on Tuesday to remove the fluid in her chest. They found that it was actually old blood that had clotted and sort of scabbed on her lung, causing the lung to stay deflated. They removed the blood clots and her lung has since inflated. The Dr.s think that maybe something got nicked during the bypass surgery. They don't see any evidence of any continued bleeding but have left two chest tubes in for a few days to monitor her. She also required a blood transfusion this morning after iron supplements didn't help enough. She is very discouraged but looking forward to getting better and getting home. Mary, we can't wait to see you posting on the board!
