Hi Linda! I am praying that you will get approval real soon! I am a shorty too 4 10 3/4 and had to fight insurance also just keep up the fight don't give up you will win! God bless you and watch over you. Hugs and prayers!

Hi, everybody. Sorry I haven't written lately but everything is at a stand still. I am still waiting for my Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC to approve my surgery. I have sent them several letters from different doctors in an appeal and I was told last week that it is being reviewed again. I also wrote a letter to NC Senator Jesse Helms and his office got in touch with Blue Cross. I really don't know what else to do. If anybody out there has any suggestions I would be glad to hear from you. My insurance runs out in September and I'm afraid I won't make it in time. I have insurance through the Cobra program and you can only keep it for 18 months from the time of your employment. I have not been able to work since February of 2001. Good luck to all who are facing surgery and I hope I will be in that group before long.

Linda, I am so sorry to hear about your denial. I will be praying your appeal gets approved. It seems like you have a lot of support from your doctors. I am sending positive thoughts your way. Hang in there.

I found out on May 22, that my insurance had denied me request for surgery. It was such a shock. I just sat and cried for a while until I could tell my husband what was wrong. i didn't get and notice from BCBSNC about the denial. I just happened to call them to check on it. They had written Dr. Birkitt and told him I didn't meet the criteria. So I got on the phone to the Commissioner of Insurance in Raleigh and was told to write a letter of appeal, so that's what I did. I have several doctors that are writing letters to the insurance also. Now I have to start calling the BCBS office everyday and maybe they'll see that I really am serious aabout having the surgery. Everybody help me pray that the insurance will go ahead and approve it this time.

Linda, bless you as you prepare for this new life journey. I had my surgery 6 weeks ago by the same Dr. you are going to. He is great!! I am feeling real good. Be sure to follow his instructions and study your diet before your surgery. My prayers are with you.

I'm sorry I haven't written anymore since the first time. I have finished all my tests required for the surgery and it has been sent to the insurance co. for approval. I do not have a surgery date scheduled yet. We are just waiting to hear from the insurance. I went for the nutrition class today at Dr. Birkitt's office in Bristol, TN. It was a lot of help and it felt good meeting people that understand what you are going through. I would like to wish everyone that has already had the surgery, good luck.
