Anxiety is universal with major surgery esp one which changes you so dramatically. While things can happen the complication rate is only 7%, no higher than any other major surgery and the complication count includes such minor things as wound infection. I deal with it by thinking thru again, why was I doing this? If I didn't have the surgery ever, what would my life be like? Is it worth a risk? For me anything was better than going on as I was. I could only envision becoming disabled to the point I'd spend the last years sitting in a wheelchair in a nursing home begging someone to take me to the bathroom. They would refuse because I was toooo fat. I also couldn't stand to think of living with the pain of the health problems I already had. Almost all my health problems have resolved including: acid reflux, shortness of breath, chest pain, urinary dribbling and palpitations. The back pain is still there but is less. I am 4 mo post and have lost 49#. I go to the gym 6 times a week and can getup from the floor without holding on to anything, walk easily, and feel I have more strength than I have in years. That sense of well being is unbelievable. Focus on your new life and you will go into the hospital with a big smile. Jane

Hi! We will be having surgery the same day. I was scheduled for April 11, 2002 but a friend that had her Surgery Dec 27, 2001 needed to be revised due to several problems from an ulcer, and sveral dilation attempts without success. She had been sick each time aand her health was declining even with her wt. loss of 90+ lbs. She was going have to wait and I felt she had been thru so much she needed my date of 4-11-2002 more than I did so our Dr. rescheduled mine for 5-7-2002. Just A note as today is 4-13-2002 and my friend had her revision and is doing well).
