WOW! I have a new birthdate, July 2. 2002. It was not easy. I have read so many stories about how easy the surgery was, with negligible pain, and believe me, folks, this is MAJOR surgery and it HURTS. A LOT.
I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Today I was able to eat three bites of soft scrambled egg, two teaspoons of oatmeal and four teaspoons of applesauce, total. This is opposed to three days pre op when I had 6 slices of bacon, 3 fried eggs, 4 slices of toast JUST for breakfast, and then several sandwiches and a large bag of chips for lunch, snacked on fruit, carrots, and celery, the carrots and celery bathed heavily in ranch dressing, followed by a huge steak, baked potato, tossed salad, a quart of ice cream and a large candybar.
I hurt, but I feel wonderful at the same time. My doctors, Dr. Celio Burrowes and Dr. Case were astoundingly wonderful, and there many times, always when I had a need. Every step I made, and every time I used my spirometer, they were there to cheer me on, telling me how great I was doing. Honestly, with these doctors and the staff of Atlanta Medical Center behind me, I cannot fail.
This is a wonderful tool to be used wisely. Once back on normal foods, and off the purees, I will visit a nutritionist again and plan out how I will eat from there out.
I thank God daily for all my wls family, doctors and staff who have given me the support and courage to go through this. Your kind words of encouragement have made it possible to get through the surgery, and I hope to help others out there who are thinking of it. A HUGE loving hug has to go to my best friend, my writing partner, who posted here for me while I was in the hospital. He is also a very talented hypnotist and was able to calm me in post op to the point where I was able to relax and let the meds work.
