Northshore University Hospital Hospital

I had the unfortunate circumstance to have al allergic reaction to Demerol, amd Morphine. Instead or persuing alternatives with the MD, I suffered with pain for the first 36 hrs. post op. Whe I was transferred from recovery to "Special Care" I was left in a cubivcle which was at least 80* warm, with the trauma, or glaring emergency lights on. I did not recieve instructions from staff, no call bell, etc. I am an RN, and as I write this I'm still crying. I'm cryinng for myself, and for the nursing profession. I always thought it was the patient, and their confort, which was the most important. When I did finally see my MD he ordered dilauded ( which is a pretty strong medication) and this was the first relief and the first time I could sleep, since the surgery almost 36 hrs. prior.

I felt the nursing staff was pretty horrible. There was a psych patient across the hall from me who screamed day and night and the nursing staff was obviously not trained for her situation so they laughed at her and ignored her as she disturbed everyone on the floor. An example was when I was doing my walking I saw her trying to drag herself off the bed. I went to the nurses main station and told them and they responded "Good, I hope she breaks her legs!" I was outraged. I will write a letter to the hospital administration and file a complaint. They were also very slow to answering patient calls for help. Thank god I didn't need them too much fo myself.
