Alaska Regional Hospital Hospital

I enjoyed my stay at the hospital including my stay at the Alaska House. The cafeteria staff was so helpful. They had my meals on time, and they tasted wonderful. They always had a smile on their face and were willing to chat. Even the cleaning staff had a moment or two to say hi. It was awesome. Thank you so much!

I was extremely disappointed with the lack of care given at Alaska Regional hospital and would never recommend it to anyone. I would say that I got the bare minimum of care at this hospital, and was very disappointed in it. The room I was in had old beds, which can be dealt with, however I had a separate cord laying in my bed for bed mechanics, nurse light, and for pain control, all of which kept getting lost and falling on the floor. I asked that the rails be left down on one side so I could get myself up to use the bedside comode, but was rarely left with them down. I was so frustrated, and embarrassed that I had to call out for help on two separate occasions because my buttons had fallen on the floor. I would have waited for the nurse to make rounds, but they didn't seem to make them. I finally discovered how to operate the full length rail alone. When I had to ask for pain medication, after the pump was discontinued, I never had to wait less than two hours, and once up to five hours for medication. I had the same problem with getting my call bell answered. It might get answered fairly promptly, however the help never seemed to come for less than two to five hours. Many times when my light was not responded to, I would call back in an hour. I never called unless I felt like I was in distress that I could not handle alone, and was totally embarrassed by the lack of professional care at Alaska Regional Hospital. I do want to say that the staff for the most part was very nice, but apparently over stretched to fulfill their patients needs. I was in the CCU and don't feel like the care I was given was anything like the care needed by a patient in need of even the most modest care needed by a hospital patient. I don't feel that my Doctors at the hospital however were aware of these problems. My doctors for the most part were very knowledgable and great surgeons.
