Dr. Barker remained wonderful through the entire process. I would use him again for any surgery. He is very sure of himself, and very professional. The thing that most impressed me is his involvement with his patients. When I would call with a question, most often he would pick up the phone himself; he Emailed me back personally on a weekend; and took a phone call while in the operating room from me.

The only negative thing I would say about my experience is that the hospital he used for my surgery was, in my opinion, horrible.

Overall, I'd say Dr. Barker is the best.

I absolutely love Dr. Barker! He did my husband's surgery in January & he will definitely do mine when I am approved. I think Dr. Barker is probably the most caring Dr. that I have met before. He is very kind and if he doesn't know the answer to a question, he tells you that he doesn't know, but I think he usually tries to find an answer for you. I fully trust his surgical expertise!

Dr. Barker is a cutie! When I first met him, he made me feel very comfortable and was quick to answer any questions that I had. The day of my surgery, he was also comforting although I did not get a visit from him before I left the hospital. I had a visit one week later to remove my staples and once again, I felt comforted. The only thing that bothers me is the sudden change in office location and staff. I had grown to know and like the old staff. I don't know any of the new people and I am still unsure of the reason for this sudden change.

DrBarker & his staff are amazing. I couldn't have picked a better surgeon. He's very generous w/his time, patient, & caring. He highly recommends this website & SupGrpMtgs. He's very thorough about explaining things in detail before/after surgery. "Two thumbs up" for a perfect 10.

Dr Barker seems like a nice enough fellow. He seems knowledgable in his field. I trust him to do the surgery. One thing that stood out, is that he actually called my home to talk to me about the surgery. I sent an email through his website and he himself took the time to call me. I find that nice. Most docs have a staff member do the grunt work like that.

Nothing but praise for him and his staff. He performed surgery on both of my parents in the last year and a half. I asked about a volume or family discount but it was no go! ;-)

I really liked Dr Barker the first time I saw him. Treated me like a human and seemed concerned about me and getting my surgery asap. The office staff is wonderful. They have strict policies and stick to them but they explain why and let you know what you need to do to get things done. They would always pull my file when I called and try to help me then, I think only once did they have to call me back because they did not have the info ready. The only thing is that all the bariatric surgeons have so many patients that by the time you have all the testing done and go back for your scheduling appointment you have to refresh their memory a little. That is understandable and did not change the way I felt about Dr. Barker. I would definitely recommend him to someone else.

6/13/05 - Dr. Barker is amazing. He is a very skilled surgeon and has a relaxed bedside manner. He's like talking to a really good friend. He's kind, knowledgeable and committed to you and your surgery. His staff is lovely and very knowledgeable. I called so many times, but they never let on that I might be pestering the heck out of them. The surgery was so easy. I had a Lap RNY on 5/25/05 and had very little pain. I only took pain meds for the first day. I got up that next morning, followed his orders and was able to go home the next morning. He's awesome and I'd recommend him over and over again. I pray that everyone has the same experience I did with this surgery. Choosing Dr. Barker is your first step!

I met with Dr. Barker this past Thursday, 3/31/05, and he was amazing. Very nice, great beside manner, clear in his answers, spoke in laymen's terms, helpful, and very easy on the eyes. The staff was helpful, courteous, and seemed very organized. I had read some horrible statements about Dr. Barker's bedside manner and how his staff seemed overworked, but did not witness that at all on the visit. The waiting room was crowded when I came out, but Dr. Barker was calm and didn't rush me in the least. He made me feel welcomed, understood, heard, and answered all my questions.

He didn't see a problem with my insurance and everything is going smoothly with the paperwork. The staff is doing most of the work, so I am just sitting back and making sure I keep the appointments made for me.

The only negative thing that I experienced was that there is a long process involved, but that's not the fault of Dr. Barker, rather than my insurance company. Dr. Barker and his staff seem to have a great work balance and seem to have the system down to a science.

I would recommend Dr. Barker for initial consultation and surgery. I have checked out his references and he seems to be an excellent surgeon with a great beside manner!

Best of luck to all,
R

My first impression of Dr. Barker was very good. I was fortunate to have worked with him at a local hospital and saw first hand how he provided his patients with top-notch surgical preop/postop care. I choose him because of this surgical quality and a feeling of great trust in his abilities and professionalism.

Dr. Barkers office staff were very friendly and helpful beginning with my first visit and even though I had called them frequently at first they seemed genuinely interested in me personally even though I had never met them before. I think I felt like I was really not a " fat freak " standing at the check in window, that first day, but a "normal" person to them. For that I am thankful to them. They knew I was on a time line for my testing ( limited time off from work) and really worked hard with me to coordinate and get in as many tests as possible in the days I had to take.

I will update this later when I have more information, but the last question asked was about what I think is better and I will choose "surgical competence" which is very important to me. Afterall if the surgery doesn't go well...what difference does the bedside manner make? But ideally to be able to possess both traits is a Trophy moment.

Dr. Barker was so kind on my first visit to see him. He was very professional with a great bed side manner. He seemed caring/but very busy...great surgens are.

He assured me that I would be okay, and knew that I was scared. He didn't have alot of time to spend with you, but I haven't met a doctor yet that does. This is where I did my research on my own, and should..I not only researched my surgery, but Dr. Barker as well..

I didn't want to be babied, I just needed a good doctor that knew his business, and Dr. Barker does. His office staff was rude to me at times and held up my paper work from work before I could get paid for being off. Dr. Barker is a doctor that I would recommend highly. Rated from one to ten....a big ten here.
