When I first met Dr. Moonka I thought he was very young. He was extremely polite. He was very informative and positive about what surgery could do for me. He was also very upfront about the risks as well.
The office staff is very pleasant. Also, the hospital staff at Virginia Mason after surgery were great.
Dr. Moonka is very helpful after surgery. I live in Yakima and he is in Seattle, but whenever I call with a question, if the nurse cannot answer then I always get a call back from Dr. Moonka personally.
Overall Dr. Moonka is a kind and knowledgeable doctor and surgeon! I would give him a 10!

Nice and informative
Very caring person
The staff is well trained and truly care about you. When Dr. Moonka did my RNY surgery, I almost didn't make it thru the surgery but his skills and intelligence saved me. Even though I was in the hospital and a nursing home for awhile, Dr. Moonka was always in touch with me. Dr. Moonka REALLY DOES CARE about his patients and their families. Even when I went home and needed to talk to him, he would always return my calls quickly. I know I couldn't have had a better surgeon.
My first impression of Doctor Moonka was very good. He made me feel very comfortable. He told me that my surgery would be a challenge because I had a surgery the previous year for a hiatal hernia and they had to open me up from breast to belly button then. He said that its going to be a hard surgery because I had so many hernias, but he would like to give it a try because I deserved it. I dont think I have ever had a doctor believe in me right off the bat like that before. Dr. Moonka does this kind of work with passion. I put my whole trust in him from the start and I just dont have one negative thing to say about him.

Dr.Moonka is very soft spoken. I feel very comfortable with him. I have only seen him 3x so far. And I'm already on the losing side!! I go in with a long list of questions and he takes the time to answer each and every one of them. He's not like some doctors always looking at his watch and making you feel like he has to move onto the next patient. Sean, his nurse, is wonderful too. I only remember seeing Dr. Moonka one time in the hospital (too much pain meds!) but he assures me he saw me twice. He says I'm doing great and I have all the confidence in the world that he is telling me the truth. Unfortunately, I hear he is going to stop doing these surgeries for a while. I don't know the reason.

Dr. Moonka is very nice. His manner was caring and concerned, gentle and thorough. He had removed a tumor from my side several years ago that went smoothly with no after surgery issues. He also comes higly recommended from other medical professionals in the clinic. I feel very confident about having him perform my bypass surgery.

My husband and I first met Dr. Moonka February 21, 2003. I had seen other surgeons, but Dr. Moonka impressed us both. He gave us a lot of information right up front and was very interested in me as a person. He spoke about the risks: about the possible leakage, what can occur, how to fix it, and what it would take for my family and me to get through it all. His staff is great. Everyone so far has been very helpful and really nice. He sent us home with information so the rest of my family will have an idea of what to expect. Both Dr. Ware, my regular doctor, and Dr. Moonka will handle the aftercare. They are already talking and letting each other know exactly what is going on. At this point I am not only scared and but also can't wait to meet the new me. Both Dr. Moonka and Dr. Ware are rooting for me; this makes me feel very comfortable and really cared for.

I love Dr. Moonka, he is very confident and knows what he is doing and talks to you like you are a person, no ?? was left unanswered or did he give me or my husband the feeling of he needed to get out and get to the next paitent. His office staff is okay, but be prepared to do alot of the "Leg" work yourself. I was just dizappointed in the length of time ot took to get into him.
Ther are 3 follow up visits with him and the dietician, and then we are on our own, so here is where the leg work comes in. I however would rather look for aftercare myself and trust my DR. then have a wonderful program and be worried about the hospital and my Dr. Virginia Mason is the best hospital I have ever been to,this is our second time there. My 44 year old husband had quad bypass surgery last april 19thso we have spent time there before and that did play into me looking for a surgeon to do the WLs there.

I didn't really have a first impression of Dr. Moonka. So far I've only met him once. I was extreamly nervous and was deffinately glad later on that my mom was there with me. I beleive that Dr. Moonka is an excellent choice for any one who is in this area that is interested in possibly getting this proceedure done.
And I recommend him even though he wasn't going to recommend me for the surgury at first. And that's actually one of the main reasons why I recommend him. He pays attention and cares about he's doing. He was concerned about my age and that I might be too young to really appreciate what the surgery meant. He explained a lot of things to me and then quizzed me on what he had just talked about. Although it was a nerve wracking visit - it was good and informative.
Since meeting him my mom (who is a nurse in the OR in Bellingham) has spoken with a co-worker who used to assist Dr. Moonka and she said he is a very skilled surgeon.
He strikes me as a very dedicated professional and was easy to talk to. I have my pre-surgery meeting(s) on the 24th and will try to update this site before my surgery.
