Dr Moonka is kind and soft spoken, very knowledgable and ready to work through any concern you might possibly have. His staff is awesome and will bend over backwards to help you out. I am very happy that i had him as a surgeon, and he was a replacemnt for a surgeon i initially went to see at Saint Francis, I was MUCH happier with Dr. Moonka.

I was one of Dr Moonka's first patients.(number 15 i think). Don't be in a hurry. Take your time and pick the right doctor. In hindsight, he would not be my choice. I have had major complications resulting in sepsis and intensive care and a staple line disruption just to name a few. I have since had those things \"fixed\" but still have issues with my health as a result of having my surgery with him. He and his staff are nice, but when it comes down to brass tacks, he will remind you that this is the surgery you signed up for and that complications can arise. In my opinion - taking no blame. He stopped doing the surgery for a while after he experienced my complications. I'm sure he has more success stories now, years later. I am not happy with the way I am treated when I approach him with the issues that I have now. Please do your research and don't be swayed by an excellent staff and a kind demeanor. This surgery is serious.

Met with Dr. Moonka and staff 10/30/06. I am scheduled for RNY 03/14/07. He and staff were very personable and comforting. I'm 3 hours away from VM in Seattle so I have only had one meeting with him. I am scheduled for an appt. two days prior to surgery and the day before surgery so I'm sure I'll see him them and will update this review as time goes on.

I was very impressed with Dr. Moonka. He was great at making you feel comfortable enough to ask any questions. His answers were thorough. I left feeling confident in my choice.

I thought he was very nice. Seemed very focused. Felt a confidence level in him that he would be successful. Will meet with him again as I get closer to my surgery date. My surgery is a revision from a JIB to open RNY. My complicated and the surgery will take approx. 4 hours.

I had my first consultation with him yesterday (5/16/05). Dr. Moonka and his surgical intern are both very nice, and seem to go out of their way to make you fill comfortable. He is upfront about all the risks and his own serious and none- serious complication rates. He gave me the time to answer all my questions (I came will a long list). From first impressions I would recommend him to anyone. The only con I can think of is that it’s in the heart of Seattle and parking sucks. I had to walk 4 blocks UP HILL to get to his office (nearly killed me hehe). I am going to have one more appointment with him one day before my surgery. So I’ll update again then.

My first meeting with Dr. Moonka was a wonderful experience. He and his staff were all very caring and wonderful. Dr. Moonka is soft spoken, answers any questions you might have and he saved my life. He gave me back my life. I had my surgery on June 23rd 2004. I have lost to date 110 pounds. My scar is barely visable and it's goes from my breastbone to my bellybutton. Dr. Moonka did a wonderful job. My impression has not changed from the very beginning. The office staff are wonderful and caring. There is nothing I did not like about Dr. Moonka or his staff. Oh yes, I did think of something, when you go into the office for your meeting the chairs are of normal size which was surprising to me, as we are all morbidly obese. I was afraid I would need the jaws of life to get myself out of them. Dr. Moonka went over my health history, suggested that he thought I would be a great candidate for the surgery and we went forward from then on. He went over the pros and cons of the surgery, the rish and the benefits. Dr. Moonka's outlook, professionalism, surgical competence and beside manner are all the best. I have to give him a big kiss when I go to see him next month and thank him again for being so wonderful and helping me with my journey to a new and better life. Thank you Dr. Moonka from the bottom of my very healthy heart.

Dr Moonka was very straigh forward and to the point I was very happy the way I was treated in the office by him and his people they seem to really care about making a person life better. He went out of his way to answer all the questions my wife had for him beings she wasnt able to attend the seminar and I was grateful is taking the time and I know his time is vauable but it made my wife feel comfortable the whole process.I will keep this updated as needed

Dr. Moonka was great. At first he seems a bit shy, but he is very easy and not nearly as stuffy as the folks I initially saw at the UW. He takes care to explain thoroughly what's going on, and keeps it in mind that you're paying for the procedure out of pocket so tries to keep your hospital stay short if possible w/o risking your health.

There's a bit of structured after-care with the dietician, but a more defined program and contact with other patients would be an added bonus.

Combo of skill and personality is important. I was quite happy with Dr. Moonka, and would recommend him to future patients.
