Mark Vierra Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Vierra is AMAZING! If it's OK with his wife I'm going to marry him when I grow up. hehe
He is so considerate and charming. I feel completely confident in his abilities and I know I am in good hands. He has put me at ease about the decision to have surgery and I look forward to having him in my new life.
My first impression of him was a really good one. He seemed full of information and he also has a genuine concern for each one of his patients.
I can't think of anything that I dislike about Dr. Vierra. Some of his office staff can be rather rude on the phone but there are also AWESOME people who work there as well. Chris, Doctor V's assistant is GREAT! Dr. Vierra is very infolved in your life after surgery. He is a firm believer of follow up and aftercare. If you decide to go to him make sure you understand that he will be a part of your life FOREVER! I'm OK with that!
If I had to rate him on a 1-10 scale I would give him a 100. His surgical skill is unmatched and he is one of the sweetest doctor's around.

He is very professional, quiet but kind. He has high standards for the patients he accepts. His assitant is very nice and totally informative. He isn't very outgoing but he is very supportive and has an outstanding record of success and low mortality/incidents rates. There is an ongoing support group for preop and post op patients and he leads a series of monthly lectures dealing with info regarding obesity and weight issues once a month. I highly recommend him and had done a lot of research on his background, training and experience and when he came to my area from Stanford hospital, was thrilled to have him as my surgeon.

My first impression of Dr. Vierra was when I saw him at one of his seminars. He seemed a little bored to be there. But as he talked it was apparent that he does take his job very seriously. My first consolation was on Mar. 31, 2004. I was very impressed by the answers he gave me to my questions and I had a lot of them. He was very professional and to the point. My husband and I walked away feeling much better about WLS.
The front office staff was a little stand offish, but Christine is a very nice and informative person to deal with.
At this point of the process I would rate Dr. Vierra at a 8 out of 10. My rate has changed from an 8 to an 11. My surgery didn't go exactly as planned and Dr. V was well skilled to handle to issue. I thank the good lord I choice him. My aftercare is on going and usually without issues.

He is gifted, in a word. Very knowledgeable & experienced, very direct, very professional, unusually intelligent. He comes from teaching at Stanford University and is very well known. He walks with the Hand of God over him, huge talent and skill.
As I got to know him I discovered a deep personal drive he has to help people. He is tremendously compassionate and cares very deeply about his patients. He goes far beyond the call of duty. His staff is warm, friendly and caring as well. There is only utmost respect and deep appreciation for this man. Words cannot express how highly I think of him. Aftercare is extremely important, and Dr. Vierra has a good resource with support group, nutritionists, and lots of direction and focus on what to expect pre and post op. He tells it like it is on surgery, but he is quite picky about accepting candidates. You must honestly convince him you are capable of following a program. He wants to work with those who want to help themselves. He makes it crystal clear this is not a quick fix, you have to work for your own success. On a scale of 1-10 Dr. Vierra rates a 20. As far as his surgical competence, it's off the charts. I tell him that with me he found a scrap heap of old used body parts and created a miracle out of them...I am a survivor of many intestinal surgeries. He enjoys a good joke, but he walks around the hospital and you can almost see the gears in his head working overtime. He is constantly thinking. Beside manner couldn't be more compassionate. He takes time even though he's a very busy man. I recommend him highly and am extremely grateful I have such a wonderful professional watching out for me. Dee

I had read that Dr. Vierra was not a friendly doctor and could be a lttle cold. I was very nervous meeting him but knew that he had a great reputation which was more important than bedside manner. I was so surprised to meet him and not only feel he was the best doctor for the surgery, but he was very kind and unassuming.
6 weeks later I had the surgery and 2+ years later, I am 170 lbs lighter, a size 4, down from 24-26, and in control of my eating.
My husband had the surgery with Dr. Vierra in December 2003 and he's lost 50+ lbs.
I would highly recommend Dr. Vierra. I still see him every 6 mths to check in. He has told me that will continue for 5 years.
Several people who had the surgery previous to me told me the most important element of this whole event is the surgical competence. I completely trust Dr. Vierra in that area.

Dr. Vierra is a highly skilled surgeon who takes Bariatric surgery very seriously. He makes sure his potential patients understand the concept of WLS. His office staff are very helpful and resourceful. His follow-up care is strict and he emphasizes using WLS as a tool to a better life and lifestyle. He advocates exercise and food journaling. He outlines the risks of this particular surgery as well as the benefits. I rate him excellent overall and excellent in the area of patient/physician relationship.
