Hi my name is Kathy I have struggled with my weight my entire life I am 26 years old and decided to go and get the gastric sleeve with Dr. Guillermo Alvarez (: I had a lot of thinking to do and he is by far the best Dr. My mom decided to travel with me so I wouldn't travel alone we were worried to travel into Mexico especially my mother but I hear here recommend it to everyone now (: ! The stay at the holiday in was so nice and relaxing she and I loved it & enjoyed their breakfast lol ! Then in the morning you get picked up by your driver rosy in a nice big van and crossed over in less that 10 min we were at the hospital ! Very easy and safe !!! That's when we got to meet the other patients getting sleeved and the amazing Dr. Guillermo Alvarez he then explains everything and makes sure to answer any questions that you have and introduces you to your nurse Jessica who is the nicest and most helpful ever ! and then you get all your tests done and if everything comes out good your good to go ! And get SLEEVED (: but I would totally say its safe to stay in eagle pass TX and cross over to Piedras Negras !!! I'm just 1 month and a couple days and already lost 26.2lbs and feel great !!

Positive review for Dr. Alvarez and his staff;
I started seriously considering weight loss surgery around Christmas of 2012 and started doing some research online. It did not take long to find Endobariatric.com and review many very positive things about Dr. Alvarez and his staff. I was impressed with the personal nature of the facility and it felt they genuinely cared for each patient. Once I started communications with Susan, I was made to feel very safe and decided to go ahead with the procedure.
I was required to do 30 days of pre-op liquid diet, which was very difficult but after the first few days it became very easy, cravings were still there but I was not feeling like I was starving anymore. I lost approximately 27-28lbs prior to arriving in Texas.
I was a bit apprehensive about that part of Texas but it all turned out fine. Eagle Pass, there is not much to do but maybe go to the Casino. If you can spend a day walking around downtown San Antonio, it is worth it, although they seem to be grilling Steak everywhere, which was heartwrenching..lol.
The next morning Rosy picked us up and it was a short easy trip right across the border, which I never left the hospital until going back to San Antonio. My sister went to lunch nearby with Jessica, who is very sweet and helpful. All the staff was very attentive and very nice and polite. I have not spent much time in hospitals but of what I have, this was far nicer treatment.
I went to sleep seconds after transferring from my hospital bed to the gurney and I woke up later in my bed, asking when I was going to have my surgery. To my surprise, it had already happened. The recovery was better than I expected and they give you all the medication you need to make your recovery comfortable.
You receive all the documentation of the do’s & don’ts, post-op and Dr. Alvarez & staff are very quick about returning correspondence for any questions and concerns you might have. Even though I am thousands of miles away I feel good knowing that I can pick up the phone or get a quick response via email. It is easier to get a question answered than if I were to call my local Dr. who is only a couple miles away.
I started my pre-op diet 1/7/13 and had my surgery on 2/4/13 and as of today, approximately 63 days into this adventure, 36 days post-op, I am down just under 60LBS with a goal of being down approximately 120lbs by the end of summer. Thanks to Dr. Alvarez I am completely secure that I now have the tools to succeed and continue living healthy.
I highly recommend this to anyone who has spent too much time in frustration over the ups & downs of dieting and feeling like things have gotten out of control. This is an excellent way to put your life back into your hands. I only wish I could have done this 10 years ago.

My mother-in-law had her surgery a year before I went and had mine, and I am so thankful for choosing Dr. Alvarez. We were picked up in Eagle Pass, and the lady that picked us up to go to Mexico was so nice. Crossing the border to Mexico was a piece of cake and when we arrived at the hospital everyone was so nice. We met Dr. Alvarez the moment we came in the hospital and he was very personable and he introduced us to his entire staff. He was in our rooms 2-3 times a day checking on us.
You get one one on one attention the entire time you are in the hospital. The hospital room is extra nice and so was the operating room, but the rest of the hospital looked like a small rural hospital, even though they were making updates while we were there.
You cannot get this type of care anywhere but here. I recommend this doctor to anyone who is looking into bariatric surgery, nor would I go to anyone else. Please do not let going to Mexico scare you, the doctors and staff here are amazing and you will not have one regret on the experience. I would do it all over again.
Do your research Dr. Alvarez is the best and his care staff are amazing.

I was so scared to go to Mexico. Once I met Dr. Alvarez all of my fears went away. I knew I was in great hands. Best decision I have ever made! His staff was friendly & wonderful. Dr. Alvarez checked on me several times through the days following surgery. I appreciated this so much. He always took time to answer all of my questions post-op. This experience was so much better than I had hoped for. I never felt pain! It was fabulous! I was most impressed with my incision sites. Very clean, small, look great. I had seen pictures online that looked terrible and I was scared! Mine are so small and look great & I'm only 30 days post-op! So happy with Dr. Alvarez :)

First off I want EVERYONE to know that where I went to in Mexico was completely safe. As a matter of fact to be honest, it didn't look like a city where there was a whole lot to do, so if anyone is traveling with you the most exciting thing for them to do is probably grab a bite to eat, but also there are a few shops that you can go to as well. The translator, Jessica, was very nice and any questions you had she answered. She helped with absolutely everything you could possibly think of and more. The whole nursing staff were superb and went above and beyond the call of duty. The hospital was very clean, looked a little old, but the rooms looked like hotel rooms and were inviting and cozy, not clinical at all. I felt very secure there and was confident that I was going to do well before and afterwards. Lastly, I just adore Dr. Alvarez. He is the kindest doctor I have ever met and his bedside manner goes above and beyond what I had hoped for. As a matter of fact he came or his assistant Dr. came and checked in on me every hour or so. They are genuinely concerned about how you are feeling, what you are feeling, and they listen to you. He never once acted like he was too much in a hurry or didn't have time to answer my questions or address my concerns. In fact, if I ever need another procedure done for some reason I plan on going right back to him. He is better than a lot of healthcare facilities in the states that you pay an arm and a leg for, only to get half the service and genuine care that Dr. Alvarez and his staff provide you with. I can't say enough good things about him and his staff. I highly recommend him. You will be glad you chose him. :)

I started researching having VSG surgery in Mexico after discovering how expensive it was in the UK. After many hours on google I found Dr Alvarez who was not only cheaper than here but had much more experience of doing the sleeve than any British bariatric surgeon. His reviews were all glowing and nobody had a bad word to say about him. The other thing that I found so helpful was that Dr A was so accessible via all the youtube videos he does.
I was never worried about the surgery as from all that I had read I knew I'd be safe in the hands of Dr A, and although I wasn't nervous about going to Mexico, for those who are, don't be, Piedras Negas is a lovely town and I went out with my friend to local restaurant and on my own for a walk and felt completely safe.
Dr Alvarez was absolutely charming with a wonderful bedside manner. He greets you when you arrive at the hospital and after the surgery he or his assistant Dr Gabe come to your room several times a day until you are discharged and then you are sent home with detailed aftercare instructions. His staff are also charming and all speak English; Jessica is there during the day to look after you and your companion and Jesus is there to help at night as the nursing staff speak only Spanish.
I cannot speak highly enough of my experience with Dr Alvarez and now that I am a month out he is at the end of a phone or email and always gets back very quickly with any query I have. I have never been given an email address or phone number by any doctor in my life.
I am so glad that I found Dr Alvarez and had this surgery as his surgical skill is second to none and he is such a lovely caring man.

A review of Dr. Guillermo Alvarez...
After hearing good things from other people who have traveled for bariatric surgery we decided to take the plunge. My husband and I travelled from Canada to see the Dr. Alvarez. After countless reviews and tons of researched we decided to use the Dr. and his team. The care I received was like nothing I have ever experienced. Great one on one care and a truly compassionate genuine team of doctors and nurses. The surgery was routine for them but a huge deal for me and one of the best decisions I've ever made. After one month I'm 31 lbs. lighter. The first few weeks aren't easy but so well worth the difficulties. I feel great and have an optimistic future for my young family.
I would recommend Dr. Alvarez for anyone requiring or thinking of this adventure.

When I first decided to go to Mexico for surgery I was concerned about my location choice. We've all heard horror stories about safety in Mexico. But I never felt safer, it is such a short drive from Customs to the hospital. It is a public hospital but I always felt safe and not at all uncomfortable. He does have dedicated areas for his patients. Dr. Alvarez is very engaging and willing to spend time with you and answer questions. At first I thought he can't be this smooth let's see if he keeps it up; but I soon changed my opionion. The number of times he or a staff physician did rounds was impressive compared to experiences in the states. Office staff continues to answer questions, and there was an English speaking staff member available to answer questions 24hours a day while I was there. Physically I am doing quite well and look forward to my journey.
