Best experience ever. Dr. Alvarez and his team in Piedras Negras, Mexico is top notch. They are professional, knowledgeable, experienced and kind. I recommend them highly for anyone considering a gastric sleeve.

My surgery was on June 17, 2017 and I am down 28 lbs and no longer on antidepressants or blood pressure medication.

It's a journey, but the reward at the end is worth the effort. Going to Dr. Alvarez and having this procedure was life changing and the best choice I could have made for myself.

Dr.Alvertez is absolutely wonderful. My boyfriend and I traveled to Mexico to have the surgery done, everything went great. From the time we were picked up at the airport till after the surgery was complete we were treated the very best by Dr.Alvertez and his team. We were so comfortable with the hospital staff and staying at the hotel they provided for us. Everyone welcomed us throughout our stay and took extra care of us. I cannot say enough about Dr.Alvertez and the surgery, everything went great and I could not be happier. I would recommend Dr.Alvertez and his team to anyone, you are treated like royalty the entire time you are there. Thank you so much Dr. Alvertez for changing my life in such a positive way. Your the greatest!

I had my annual well-woman exam and uterine cancer was discovered. After my hysterectomy, my oncologist said he could fix the cancer but he really wanted me to fix my weight, and he recommended surgery in Mexico as our BC/BS would not cover VSG for me. At first, medical work in Mexico was just not my first choice. But I started doing the research, and found Dr. Alvarez with Endobariatrics (endobariatric.com) in Piedras Negras, Mexico. His communication with me was very informative, and I began to seriously consider this option. His record of excellence was impeccable, and I decided to place my trust in him. I liked the idea that I could drive almost to his hospital door. His practice is just a mile inside Mexico, and the town of Piedras Negras had a safe reputation. Access was easy, and within just minutes we crossed the border from Eagle Pass, Texas to the Hampton Inn in Piedras Negras. The first afternoon we met our sleeve sister, and explored the local market. That evening, we met Dr. Alvarez and I felt my choice was completely confirmed. The next morning, his staff picked me up to go to the hospital. The hospital itself was satisfactory. Each doctor and nurse we met (and there were plenty) was well-trained, kind, compassionate, and an expert in his/her task. Language was not a barrier. If one person did not speak fluent English, someone next to him/her did. I never felt that I did not understand what was going on. Once I was in Dr. Alvarez's care, I knew that he was absolutely going to insure my safety and support my decision. He is very skilled, charismatic, and absolutely confident in his team. I had no pain, even though he said my stomach was one of the largest he'd seen! That's not an award I wanted to win! I had very little/brief nausea and was kind of amazed at how little stress I experienced. I was released back to the hotel the next day, his staff checked on me during the day, we went shopping that afternoon, and Dr. A. came to the hotel to check on me that evening. The next morning, he visited me again and I was released to go home. The hotel was up to the standards we'd expect of a Hampton Inn in the US. The care I received was outstanding. I would encourage others to take the plunge. I'm six weeks out and 41 pounds down...I have had no complications or issues. It's just a matter of developing a new relationship with food and with your own body! If you are considering a trip to Mexico for this surgery, this is the doctor and company you want to trust. When you do the research, there are many clinics/doctors in Mexico as well as in the US that do not have the level of expertise you want for this life-changing surgery. Dr. A is actually building a brand new facility in PN, and the issues relating to the hospital's age will disappear. He's hired the best staff, and they've worked with him for a long time. Another aspect about this surgeon that appealed to me was his dedication to helping weight-loss patients over the long haul. I've heard from him repeatedly since returning home, and I have all the support I've needed. He's even having a reunion for his patients in Memphis this fall! I think every person considering this surgery needs to take their time and reflect on the many changes that will have to be made, but I believe that nothing I want to eat will taste or feel as good as being slim and fit will feel. At 61, I am cancer-free, and within the next year, I know I will reach my goal of being "fat-free" as well. I am on my way, and it's all thanks to Dr. A.

I had surgery with Dr. Alvarez on June 6, 2017. I researched him for over a year. I was so nervous that I cancelled and rescheduled. Susan was patient and reassuring. I'm so thankful that I didn't back out. The pain was minimal (nothing like a c-section). I even had my gallbladder removed and a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time. I've had no complications whatsoever.
I recommend Dr. Alvarez and his staff- they're the best.

Dr. Alvarez, Susan and his team are true professionals.

The attentive nature of each member genuinely shows that they care about your well being. Every step of my surgical journey was exactly as it was presented to me prior to the surgery which made me feel safe and reassured. Any prior concerns or hesitation I may have felt were gone. If you are considering this procedure please choose Dr. Alvarez, you will NOT be disappointed!

If you have ANY concerns about travelling to Mexico via Texas, please rest assure that this process is part of the premium care that you will experience throughout the entire 4-5 day journey and is very safe. At times during our stay in both Texas and Mexico, my boyfriend and I felt that we were on a mini vacation and truly enjoyed!

Sincerely,

A grateful recent patient Cristina Speciale and perhaps 'Canada's nest future Spokesperson'

I had my surgery on 06/01/2017 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila Mexico. I have lost 26 lbs so far and I feel great. From the moment I arrived pre-op to the Hotel, the entire staff was very professional, helpful, and very kind. The Hotel was amazing. Very clean. The Hospital stay was very welcoming too. Nurses did their rounds pre and post surgery and were very attentive to my needs. Dr. Alvarez, his staff, and all the nurses were so sweet. Honestly, I can say that I have never had such an amazing experience with surgery as I did in Mexico with Dr. Alvarez and his staff.
I highly recommend Dr. Alvarez if you're thinking about getting Sleeved. You will be in great hands. Honestly, the trip to Mexico was well worth it. Even post-op you're still in great care. You'll still get a visit and follow up at the Hotel by Dr. A and his nurse. Amazing experience!!!

I chose 5 stars for this physician due to the fact that I received a gastric sleeve from him and his amazing team on May 5,2017. I am one month and 6 days from surgery have dropped 53 pounds, dropped a dress size, as a pediatric home health nurse I am suppose to use cribs but as time passed my scrubs no longer fit and I began using stretch pants and t shirts even wearing flip flops instead of tennis shoes because they would hurt my feet. Now I am able to fit into my scrubs and they actually are baggy on me. I have a new lease on life. Prior to having surgery I had a consultation with Dr Alvarez years ago. It was something that I had wanted for a long time just felt it was out of my reach boy was I wrong. I easily was able to finance my surgery and begin the process of preparing my body for this life saving surgery that I have no regrets doing. Many people I knew had already received surgery and one day I saw one of my Facebook friends and former colleague who looked amazing I messaged her what she was doing thinking it was another dad diet she told me she had gone to Dr Alvarez who had performed gastric sleeve surgery on her through viewing her timeline photos I saw her lose weight before my eyes. I knew I had to go back and get my surgery. I was glad I did. Dr Alvarez and his team supported me and my family before, during, and after my surgery. To this day if I have a question I can feel free to contact any member of the endobariatric team and I get an answer back quick. I know that I made the right decision and have. Anew lease on life. If this is something your thinking about and want a trusted physician who isn't going to treat you like a patient but family look into Dr Alvarez his knowledge and experience, books, you tube channel, and testimonials helped me make the best decision of my like and so can you.

As a life long failed dieter, the start of this journey was very daunting, scary and frustrating. That all ended with one email to Dr. Guillermo Alvarez. He and his staff were extremely positive and helpful in obtaining all the info I needed to allay any fear I had of the sleeve surgery, the care and recovery, and in offering continued support with aftercare. He and his staff are as equally learned and professional - if not more so-than most US medical professionals. His personal knowledge and expertise in the VSG procedure by far and large surpasses anyone I spoke to in the Southwest US. My flight to and from Texas was the only portion of the journey that I had to worry about. All else was treated with the same "concierge" treatment one might find on an all inclusive cruise or vacation. After the review of my medical records, I received a personal video message from Dr. A, giving me the news that I was a candidate - and from that moment on, I was "handheld" through journey, including having Dr. A's personal email address and phone number. From then and until now - every question I have had is answered within hours. From the moment the driver picked us up in San Antonio - everything was taken care of and timed perfectly. We crossed the border effortlessly, went straight to the hospital for tests, was then transported and checked into the Holiday Inn Express for a good night's rest. The next morning, transported back and checked into the hospital. Surgery that morning, walking around that afternoon. I even saw my removed portion on snapchat!! The next day, back to the hotel where the doctor and his staff visited us. (BTW, there is a nurse assigned to you at the hotel too.) The next day, a 10 minute cross at the border, back to San Antonio and then home. This procedure was half the cost of what I was quoted in the States and the care I received was equal in every manner.

Before you make your final decision - look up Endobariatric.com and then call - you won't regret it!
