I had my consultation with Dr. Stickler on August 25, 2000. I took my mother with me because she has been very worried about the possibility of me having this surgery. We both liked Dr. Stickler immediately. He had a wonderful personality and he seemed to really care about his patients. He explained the surgery, what to expect, what not to expect, etc., and he answered all of our questions. He stressed how important the WLS meetings were and he said how important this website is for information and support. I feel very comfortable with my decision of Dr. Stickler as my doctor and surgeon. Dr. Stickler said that the office staff will send my letter and paperwork to my insurance company within the next week. So, right now, I'm waiting to see if I am approved for surgery. I'm very anxious - it's really hard to wait.

I found DR Stickler thru this site. And i actually met him the first time online thru Instant Message, He was wonderful! He took time out of his Sunday afternoon to talk to me and answer some questions i had. He didn't rush me, or act as though i was interrupting him, let me tell you this, i was VERY Impressed! He told me when his next support group meeting was, and told me who to contact about going to the meeting, and to call his office first thing the next morning and make an appt with him for a consult, which i did, and found his office staff to be very nice. I then actually met him at the support group meeting 4 days before my consult. He again took time out of his evening to sit with me and answer more questions, even knowing i would see him in his office in 4 days. Again, i got the impression that i couldn't find a more concerned and compassionate Doctor. When i finally got into his office for my consult, i had my husband with me, and DR Stickler took his time, answered all my questions and those of my husband, he didn't rush us in anyway. I honestly believe i have found the right surgeon for me. He is very open and honest, doesn't sugar coat anything, tells you like it is right up front. But you can tell he is a man that is greatly concerned about his patients. He emphasizes aftercare, and is working hard with the support group to have a structured program.

I first consulted Dr Boustany in Charleston WV about 20 years ago to do the staple surgery. I was approved by my insurance at that time and when I received a surgery date I panicked. I called the very next day and canceled completely. I could not go through with it at that time and felt I never would. After years of yo-yo dieting I of course got bigger and bigger. I started having blood pressure problems. In 1998 my family doctor suggested weight loss surgery and I told him no way. I was scared. I continued dieting with no success. Another year passed and my family doctor once again suggested weight loss surgery. By then I was desperate. I just could not stay on a diet. I would lose some and then gain more. I ask my doctor if he knew anyone in the Charleston area that performed this surgery and he told me he knew they were doing the surgery in Columbus, Ohio but wasn't sure of anyone doing this surgery in West Virginia. So that got me investigating. I called Dr Boustanys office and made an appointment with him. I went in for a consult and he told me that he didn't do the surgery any longer, that the surgery didn't benefit good results. He told me that he had a new partner that was very interested in doing the new gastric bypass surgery but he hadn't done any of them yet. Dr Sticklers first one was scheduled in Nov. 1999 and that he, Dr Boustany was going to assist Dr Stickler in these surgerys. I then made my first appoitment with this new physican, Dr Stickler for October, 1999. My first impression was gosh he is so young. Dr Stickler explained everything to me in detail and I could tell he really cared about us and wanted to help us. I really was impressed by him, but also told him that I didn't think I wanted to be his second patient. He told me that if I wanted to wait until he had some of these surgerys under his belt that was fine. I knew then that "he" was the surgeon I wanted to do this surgery on me. Without one doubt he was the one. I started working alot of overtime at work so I had to post-pone my plans of the surgery for awhile. So during that time from Oct 99 until March 10, 2000 I read everything I could about the surgery on the internet and consulted Dr Stickler numerous times. Also, my husband wanted to meet with him to learn more and to just try and understand what I was about to do. Meanwhile, I got more anxious and excited as the time went by thinking that just maybe I was going to get a new chance at life. I was so depressed that I actually didn't want to live. All I wanted to do was sleep. Working all the overtime was so hard cause it took all I had to just get out of bed. Finally my working o/t was about finished so I called Dr Sticklers office in February, 00 and told them to put in for my insurance approval and schedule me a date. Dr Stickler has an excellent staff and easy to work with. I was approved in a couple of weeks and had a surgery date of March 10th and was ready to go. Finally, I was going to do something to change my world around. And it sure has, my life is completely different. For the first time in many many years I enjoy life and LIVING. I just thank God every day for leading me to Dr Stickler. I couldn't ask for anyone any better than him. To me, Dr Stickler is everything. I wouldn't trade him for any surgeon out there. He is very cautious with each and every patient of his and has a wonderful bedside manner. Thank You Dr Stickler, for helping in saving my life,I will be forever grateful.
