Now that I've met Dr. Baker, I can say that he is an extremely kind and sensitive man. I felt completely at ease with him and he repeatedly asked if I had any questions. During the information meeting where he described the procedure, it's side effects, and possible complications that can arise, I felt that he was very straight forward with all answers and didn't have a tendency to sugar-coat. I feel very confident in his abilities and hope that post-op, I will be equally impressed. His staff is wonderful and so willing to answer any questions a person has. They made me feel right at home!
My first impression of dr. Baker's office was and staff were more then great!! When I went for my consult, at the end, Dr. Baker came in (not knowing we were there) and he is very sweet. He asked my opinion on how to make his website better and I suggested a chatroom (like here) and he thought that was a great idea!!! I highly recommend Dr. Baker and his staff.
I met him once and seemed very kind, helpful, and educated. He has a program manager and a nurse that help him and they were also very nice. They emphasized aftercare alot, and talked quite a bit about it. They have a structured aftercare program, but I do not know too much about it except that they set up appointments at differenct intervals until you get to a point where you see them once a year for the rest of your life. To address the risks of surgery, his nurse made an appointment with me and went over everything in detail.
5/26/00: I have gotten to know Dr. Baker more than I ever expected. With all my complications I have seen at least once a week for two months now. He has stayed so involved with my health and I could see how concerned he was about me. He truly is a wonderful doctor.
I liked him and his nurses Diane and Janet. I saw them in the office. They have a very good system. DR Baker was very pleasent and was not rushed and didnn't hurry out. He answered all my questions. He even said that his son sometimes assists him during surgery as he is training to be a wls surgeon.
--POST SURG--I LOVE HIM! He is VERY good and I would recommend him to anyone. He really knows what he is doing. Including any post surgery symptoms you have. His staff is on the ball and you are so educated before going home. He gives you his beeper number so I didn't panic since it was a holiday w/e.
His nurses call you to see how you are doing.
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Baker and his staff. Everyone is very nice, polite, patient and caring. He does have a follow up program which is had for me to attend since it's a 3 hour drive, but I plan on going soon. He will tell you basics about the surgery and will give you answers to the most commonly asked questions. I had received a lot of information off the internet and at his informational meeting before I actually met him, so I never really had any questions for him as a pre-op. Post-op I did have a few questions for him and received answers immediately if not from him, then from one of the nurses. I felt very comfortable and confident in my decision with Dr. Baker and his staff. I couldn't have asked for a better nursing staff while in the hospital!! The only problem I had with Dr. Baker was having to lose 10 pounds prior to surgery, but I did it. A word of advice though.....don't try to start losing the weight until after your first initial visit with Janet or Diane....not after the informational meeting
Dr. Baker is a very kind and understanding man. His staff and other doctors with him answer questions and inform you of the procedures in great detail. My impression didn't change except to have more and more confidence that he gave me the information I needed to make a decision that changed my life for the better. His staff are all very knowledgable and willing to help in any way they can. The thing I liked least was that I could have talked with him at greater length, but he was quiet and his staff more than makes up for his quiet bedside manner. Janet, his assistant, was very insistant about aftercare and vitamins that I would have to take and offered information about thier support group. She also helped in explaining the risks, advantages and disadvantages of surgery. I would definately give the Dr. Baker and his staff a 10. His surgical competence and aftercare programs are great, he just needs spend a couple more minutes with patients.
I saw a piece about this surgery on the news one night. Dr. Baker was the surgeon that they were covering. I remember writing down his name to see if he was a member of our insurance network. The next morning I checked and was glad to see that he was. I didn't do anything about it then. I just thought about it for a few months. I finally met Dr. Baker about a week ago and felt very comfortable with him. He gave me a warm feeling and was more than willing to answer my questions and calm my fears. His whole staff is great. I am looking forward to a long period of interaction with this group of people.
Most of your questions are answered at an information meeting that they have monthly. I was surprised at the number of people that attended that meeting the same day I did. I hope that they all get the satisfaction that I am receiving.
I have not met with him yet, I am only going to a seminar he does for prospective wls patients. That is on October 5. From what I have read on this site, he requires you to quit smoking, and lose 10 lbs, I better get started!
I met my surgeon today (11/10/99) and he is super, answered all of my questions! He even understood when I told him I have a terrible gag reflex, and he agreed to take the NG tube out before I wake up.
Also, his nurse, Diane is the best; and his insurance specialist, Paula has been amazing! I cant recommend this staff enough! Specialists in General Surgery, Dr Daniel Baker, Fridley MN
12/16/99 - had surgery on the first, everything went well and the nurses who took care of me afterwards were all WLS specialists, the knew everything i needed to know, that was a blessing. I cant recommend
Dr. Baker and his staff highly enough. Dr. Baker even gave me his personal pager number to take home in case there were any problems. Thank God I have not needed to use it!
Dr. Daniel Baker seems conscientious and interested in me personally. His staff is courteous and pleasant. Sometimes, it's hard to get a hold of his nurses to ask a question, but they do return voice messages later in the day.
I have been attending a WLS support group once a month at Mercy Hospital in Anoka. The group is helpful and many of my questions and problems are addressed during the group time.
My first impression of Dr. Bake was "Calming". When I met him I knew everything would be OK!
The office staff were all very friendly and very helpful. Seemed more like a friend than a staff member.
Dr. Baker has a great bed side manner. They all seemed very concerned with my care and any questions I had were answered
with the feeling that they really cared.
