Dr. Daniel Baker has retired since my surgery and I can tell I must have been one of his last patients. He didn't have much personality and seemed to treat me like "just another obese person" and didn't get very personal with me at all. I've been back to his office a few times for follow ups and even though I've re-gained, I found the nurses aren't very sympathetic to this DAILY battle. This of course was just my personal view of his staff. After initially losing 110# and now having regained almost every pound, I do NOT feel like a success story at all and wish I could start all over again! Disgusted with myself.
I chose Dr Baker because of his experience with the R&Y surgery. His staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. I lived 150 mi. from his office, and found after care (meetings etc) not too organized. I am now 6 years out, and am having trouble keeping it off. My starting weight was 321, my biggest loss was at about 18mths out I was down to 185, (136#loss) now at 6years out I'm 205#, so I've gained 20# in the lst 4yr. How do I get this off? Obviously I've never been successful at dieting. HELP
I think Dr. Baker is the most wonderful surgeon that there is. I work in the medical field and the service I received from his staff is one you could only hope to get when going to the Dr. His staff consists of some former patients and they are wonderful to call and get help any time you need it. Dr. Baker himself will call you back if you have questions or problems. This group of people care about their patients and the really show it.rnrnDr. Baker keeps close tabs with frequent visits to his office to help with problems, do measures of your new body. Really makes your success feel great, his staff is as excited as you when you weigh in and weigh less.rnrnDr. Baker lets you know that there are risks to the surgery and is willing to address and actually sit down and talk with you and address these problems that may occur and any questions you have.rnrnDr. Baker is a very friendly personable Dr. who actually cares about his patients. He wants everyone to do great and helps prepare you for surgery so you are ready for the lifestyle changes.rnrn
Dr. Baker's group offers, by far the best, most comprehensive post-op care/support in the Twin Cities Area. I know of several people who have gone elsewhere, who after surgery felt as if they were completely on their own. I have never felt that way with the doctors and staff at Unity Hospital Bariatric Center. They walk you through every step of the process from pre-op weight loss and psych visits, to insurance approval and support groups, as well as yearly follow up visits. The only issue I had was a mix up with my IV fluid in the hospital. I was diabetic and they had me on a glucose drip when it should have been straight saline. It only meant I had to be on insulin in the hospital, but I went home off all my diabetes meds. Dr. Daniel Baker has been doing Gastric Bypass for almost 20 years, and my procedure took less than 2 hours. I was out of the hospital and back home in just two days, with Dr. Baker's pager number in my pocket. I never had to use it and felt awesome within two weeks. I would recommend anyone in the MPLS/St.Paul area looking into Bariatric Surgery to start at Unity Hospital in Fridley.
Dr. Dan Baker is wonderful. He's got such a good bedside manner, he listens to anything you've got to say, and genuinely cares about his patients.rnrnAftercare is SO important at Unity! You can call the clinic whenever, and the on-call doc will call you back within minutes if you're having problems or whatever. Never hesitate to call!rnrnOverall I rate Dr. Baker a 10++rnrnAwesome doctor. He's like a giant teddy bear once you get to know him. A little intimidating at first. rnrnHe has been doing WLS for over 25 years, so his competency is outstanding. I wouldn't go to anyone else. rnrnDefinitely I would and will recommend him to future patients for WLS.
1) My first impression was that Dr. Baker was a little \"out of it\".rn2) He turned out to be the most detailed and perfect surgeon I could have ever asked for. I was 413 and 6\"3 when I had the open RnY and he left me with a 5 inch scar, which is unbelievable, and no pain at all. I am writing this 2 months out and I have not had 1 complication and I have lost a total of 119 pounds.rn3) The staff at Unity is unbelievably helpful and committed to seeing that each patient be a sucess and succeed with this surgery.rnrnI would highly reccomend having your surgery with this surgeron as he and his staff have a very thorough pre-op and post-op program that if followed will lead you to the promise land.
