Buritt Haag Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

When i first met Dr. Haag, It was at the informational meeting in Holyoke. Being that i had gastric bypass already and i was gaining weight i felt like a failure. The way he spoke made me feel it was not my fault things like this happen to some people. I felt so comfortable with him. I finally had a 1 on 1 with him in October. It went great. I couldn't ask for a better surgeon. He went over a few proceedures for the revision depending on the outcome of the Upper GI. Which i have already done. He wants me to see my Nutritionist which is Dr. Keroack and he is wicked awesome i have been with him for 2 years. I also have to attend a support group which i am doing 11/1. Then we will see what happens after that. I am sure all is going to go well.

I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Haag. He was honest, compassionate and a professional. My surgery went absolutely smoothly and I am extremely grateful. I am still following up with him...His staff are pleasant, although , FYI , one particular nurse is quite curt, probably just her way....Dr. Haag prefers to do bands I think, due to < risk, but I decided on the bypass, he understood, it was my decision in the end .
I do suggest that you do follow the program and lose some weight after your 1st consult, I did and he was pleased and knew I was SERIOUS! Start a food diary before you see the Dr. and nutritionist as well as the Psych evaluation. By doing this you show that you are indeed motivated and ready to take this journey. Please only do this if you REALLY are.
You will only cheat yourself in the end!
As far as the hospital stay, it was ok, I was frustrated because they didn't have alot of my normal meds, despite the fact that I had provided a FULL list. My Dr. was also suppose to collaborate with my pain management Dr. which I don't think happened either........Mmmm, thats the long and short of it........

Dr. Haag is an original!! I have yet to meet a Dr. that is so understanding and motivating. He takes the time to be sure you understand everything, answer your questions, and show actual concern about your progress.
I have recommended Dr. Haag to many friends.
I actually look forward to going to a visit with him...can't remember last time that has ever happened in my life!

I liked Dr. Haag a lot. He is factual and not judgemental, and let me choose which surgery I wanted. I obviously was leaning toward lapband because it was safer, and he agreed with me on my choice....two months later he took out my gallbladder! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him again.
I was not as impressed with his medical assistant. I often felt that I was a burden, or was a pain to her when I called. She made me feel like I was a source of irritation to her, and I almost switched to another doctor for this reason! But I like Dr. Haag.
Aftercare is important....he has a support group for both the RNY and the Band - they are separate groups, and either Dr. Haag or his partner Dr. Fiallo often attend. (Or one of the medical assistants!)

i thought that dr. hagg is great. he has alway been very caring and concerned about my health and comfort. the more i visited him the more comfortable he made me feel. his staff is very friendly and helpful. they always anwser any questions ive had. he is a very husband, young and experinced in his line of work. i liked that he always attends the support meeting held by his office. he also emphasize aftercare for many yrs after surgery that it is not a short term thing. he wants me to continue attending meetings and following his aftercare program to a tee.i loved the way he describe all his concern about my asthma and the risk while in surgery. overall i rate him a 10 not only does he preform the processer i wanted he does it the way i want it done. i would have hated having one big ugly scare, 5 little ones is way better. his bedside manner and surgical competence could not have been more support and caring.

I have been very happy with Dr. Haag. I especially like the fact that he and/or Dr. Fiallo come to their support group meetings to help with questions and concerns.
He is very honest and straight forward yet has a wonderful bedside manner.
Dr. Haag was wonderful with my family especially after the surgery and kept them updated.
I would recommend him and his group. I have had nothing but good luck all the way around with all my processes. Office staff try very hard to keep you informed and in the know. I am looking forward to being a part of the new support group and helping others along the way.

Dr. Hagg was very funny. He has a strong sense of dry humor and my wife and I found that to me hysterical. I remember when we first saw him he looked young almost our age. I also liked that he is very straight forward with the patient. My wife asked him one time - "Did you hear about the man that died after the Surgery?" He looked at her and said. "Which one?"
The office staff could use a little work on the "Politeness" Scale - the front window. If I had to rate Buritt on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being superb...I'd give him a whopping and well deserved 9. His surgical competence is certaintly and enigma - his posession of expertise and talent is very amazing.
