I had to have gum surgery today. It was really painful afterwards. I have to go back again to do more surgery later. Take it from me....ALWAYS HAVE YOUR DEEP CLEANINGS EVERY 6 MONTHS!!!!! I use to be on top of it...but then life gets in the way and you tend to neglect yourself...never..again. I have deep pockets in my gum that deep cleaning couldn't take care of...so they have to surgerically go into them to make them not so deep. So take that from me and please take care of your teeths!!!!!! I love my teeth and I want to keep them for a very long time!!!!
Afterwards....I decided to go to the support group meeting at Lawrence Memorial with Dr. Randall. It was very informative. The Doctor spoke about the two procedures...RNY and lapband. We also heard from post op patients. I am learning as much as I can about this step in my life. I want to go into this fully aware and educated so that I could take care of myself once it's done. Oh....they also spoke about Tufts Navigators' new wls requirements that go into effect on March 5th. I guess starting then....Tufts is going to require that a person do a one year phone session with them about why you are overweight. Members will have to call Tufts for one year and then during the year..if you lose weight with their technique of behavior modification and diet...they won't approve you but if you don't...then they will tell you what kind of surgery you could have. This is so unfair and I hope a lot of people fight this. It's not fair for the insurance companies to rule what we know just so that they could save money! The woman that spoke said that she is sending out letters this week to Tufts for patients that are already in the program so that they could be approved before the 5th of March. I will call Suzie tomorrow so see what she knows about this....I'm sure she is on top it .....because that's just how she is!

Happy Valentines Day to everyone!!!! I hope all your loved ones make you feel super special today!!!!!! Yesterday I attended a support group and also had my sleep study. I thought the support group was going to include the surgeon and post op patients...but it didn't. I was a little dissappointed because I wanted to see and hear their stories and hear what the surgeon had to say. This will happen next Tuesday...so I wil definetely attend that. There was about 10 of there. We each had to say what brought us to this decision and talk about ourselves a little. The group of people was very nice! I made sure that I told everyone about this great site....I hope they check it out.
From there, I went to the next building for my sleep study. I arrived there early...about 7 p.m. I was scheduled for 8 p.m. My sleep tech was VERY nice!!!!!!!!!! His name is Eve. He hooked me up with all the wires and then off to bed I went. I had my own little room which had a bathroom and a t.v. I watched American Idol and then I went to sleep. Eve woke me up around 5 a.m....took off all the wires and then I took a shower and came to work. I'm glad this part is over with!!! I am just moving along so smoothly!!!!!!! I'll let you know how the second support group goes next week okay.....bye...for now.

Today I went for my ultrasound to rule out gallstones. My OBGYN had scheduled it for me along with my ultrasound to see if I have fibroids..which I don't think I have. I called the sleep study office and they have an opening on the 13th at 8 p.m. I took that appointment because I will already be at the hospital for my support group from 4 to 6 30 p.m. Wow....I can't believe how fast things are moving along. I will be so happy to have this done and start feeling better....this weight is really pulling me down. I'm sluggish and I'm am getting more shortness of breath when I walk. I am leaning towards the RNY now because it makes more sense to me and seems like I would do better on that. I'll let you know.

Well, this morning I met with the Nurse Practioner and had my Psych evaluation. The Nurse Practioner weighed me...checked my lungs..measured me and asked me a ton of questions. She then said that things look good and that my journey won't be too long because she doesn't have to send me for too many tests. I had already lined up my ducks by having some test scheduled to be done at my clinic. I then met with the Psychologist. He asked me lot's of questions too. It wasn't as bad as I thought. I was open and honest with him about why I wanted this surgery. He said based on my answers....he thinks I would be a good candidate!!! I was sooo happy to hear that. So far the light has been green for me in this process. I thank the mighty father for this and I know that he will guide me throughout this whole process. I am thankful and blessed for that. Tomorrow I go for my ultrasound to rule out gall stones . A sleep study person will be calling me to schedule the sleep apnea test. I will keep you posted!

Today I had my annual female exam. I HATE these exams sooooo much....but what can you do? It's something that WE ALL MUST Do each year. I hopped on the table and assumed the position and then just shut my eyes tightly until it was done!!!!!!! I HATE Feeling so......OUT THERE!!!!! My Gyn is so nice though. When she walked in, we talked and she looked at my chart and the first thing she said...was..."Let's talk about your weight"? What are we going to do about it" I"ve been going to see this woman for about 5 years now and this is the FIRST time that she mentioned my weight!!! I was shocked. I looked at her and said...well...I've been thinking about getting the lap band and my pcp supports me...what do you think"? She looked a little puzzled and then said....I think it's great! WOW, she's on my side!!!!! I then told her that I need to have an ultrasound to rule out gall stones before having the surgery and guess what????? She said ....I CAN DO THAT FOR YOU....I'll write up the referral for you write now!!!! I WAS SO HAPPY!!!!! I went downstairs to book the appointment and they have me in for February 7th at 9 .am.....so now that will be two tests out of the way!!!!! I'm feeling so blessed now and hopeful. Thanks for reading!

Hi...it's been a while since I've written...but I've been constantly reading and keeping up on the board. I am still waiting to go back to see the Nutritionist and Psych at the end of February. I can't wait for this month to end and then February to come so that I can get this over with. received a voice mail fromSuzie from St Elizabeths hospital yesterday....by the way....SUZIE is REALLY nice!!!! She is always so professional and kind whenever I call. She NEVER seems to make me feel like I'm bothering her. She wants to change the time of my February appointment to 9.a.m instead of 10.....(I was hoping that she had called to give me a much sooner date ....but oh well....so I called her back and while speaking with her, I asked her what other things will I need to do before surgery. She told me that I would need an echocardiogram....ultrasound to rule out gall stones and a sleep study test. I asked her if I could have my PCP do these tests and she said sure as long as he is willing to schedule them then it would be fine. So I called my PCP's office and they have scheduled me for my Echo this Thursday at 11.am! I asked her about the ultrasound and she said..."well...I don't think we could do that" "Why don't you ask your WLS doctor since they are the ones requiring these tests?" Mind you...at my physical exam on the 4th...my PCP doctor and I talked about this and he said that he would help me anyway that he can. I get the feeling that his receptionist is not a very nice person sometimes...but other times she is...so I must have hit her on her bad day. BUT since I am getting the cardio...then I'm happy...that's one step closer towards my journey!!!!! I will keep you posted.
My progress
