ONE YEAR "BANDAVERSARY"
Jul 24, 2009
Here it is one year later. I have lost a total of 33 pounds so far. Not quite exactly the number i was lookin for but not too far off track. I was hoping to loose at least half of my weight in the first year which would be 40 pounds but its ok, 33lbs is better than nothing. The band results are definitely much slower than the bypass results. Plus i know if i got more exercise in my daily routine the weight would come off alot faster. I'm actually still wearing the same clothes i wore b4 my surgery but i think b4 i was stuffing myself into the clothes like a sausage LOL. Obviously i can feel the difference in the way the clothes fit me, I'm not feeling strangled by my bra anymore. Pants and shirts are much looser now. I definitely changed my eating habits and behaviors which was alot easier then i thought. Now if i get a salad to go, Ill put only a few spoon fulls on my plate and i always make sure i get xtra grilled chicken and xtra HB eggs. Usually, by the time I'm done eating what was on my plate, I'm full. I may pick on a few more pieces of chicken but that's it. I haven't restricted myself from carbs but i have cut way down on sugars except for sugars from fruits. So far, this has been a unique experience. I have an appt to see my doc next Wednesday so hopefully I'll get filled and have even more restriction.
MY FIRST WOW MOMENT!!!
Sep 12, 2008

I had to park on the 10th floor of the parking garage. Because im used to being lazy, out of habit i walked over to the elevator instead of taking the steps. I realized that i should be utilizing this opportunity to get some exercise in. When i got to the office building there was a line to get on the elevator. KNOCK KNOCK....opportunity is here. Well, Dr C's office is on the 8th floor!! My first thought as i entered the stairwell was 'there is no way you can do this.'
Well, im here to tell you I DID IT!

I have to admit by the time i got to the fifth floor i think i died twice and came back. LOL
I had to stop on the sixth floor to catch my breath but i went up the steps and not on the elevator.
I totally inspired myself to keep going and it felt great after i got to the top. I felt like i had so much energy. I had so much energy in fact that after my visit, i took the stairs TEN FLOORS up to get my car. And of course i died twice and came back. But i did it. Before my surgery i couldn't take a load of laundry from the wash room to the third floor. This is after loosing only 18 pounds, imagine what i'll be able to do in another month!
UPDATE
Sep 04, 2008
Back from Chicago and all went well. The weather was beautiful and so was the city, a little expensive but worth it. The two games we went to the Phillies lost so that was a bummer.
As far as staying on track with weight loss that was suprisingly easy. I brought two packages of almonds to keep in my bag incase of a snack attack. I didn't eat at the ball park at all except for some roasted peanuts. My husband and I shared mostly evertything except I got a tomato and mozzerella salad that I took back to the hotel and snacked on till the next day. All in all it was a great experience!
Chicago
Aug 26, 2008
This thursday the husband and i are going to Chicago to go watch the Phillies and the Cubs. I'm really excited to get away but nervous about being distracted from my weight loss journey. I'm sure were gonna do alot of walking so that's good but i have to remember to keep myself from getting hungry.
SLIMING UPDATE.....UGH
Aug 25, 2008
I learned the hard way this past week that its not just pizza dough and kaiser rolls that cause sliming for me. Rather, its the way you eat it. The trick is just what the experts say, CHEW CHEW CHEW and take your time. My mistake on friday was letting myself get hungry. I try not to let my self get hungry. I made a salmon pinwheel stuffed with crabmeat for diner. I took two bites and i guess bc salmon tends to be dry it got stuck. Its more annoying to have to stand over the sink for 20-30 mins than anything. Also I had talipia for lunch and same thing, two bites and it got stuck.
Im still learning what foods work for me and how to make them work better. Being from philly i am addicted to philly soft pretzels and cheesesteaks (NOT to EVER be confused with "philly steak and cheese", its not the same) but i havn't touched a cheesesteak. I am however able to tolerate a pretzel. They're made in all kinds of sizes, regular, sticks and bite size. So, anyway my point is eventhough i can't eat certain breads i can still eat a pretzel!! YEAH!!!
4 WEEKS AND 1 DAY
Aug 19, 2008
Well, today is exactly one month since my surgery and here are my results so far:
Monday July 21, 2008 - Realize Band implanted with no complications.
Friday August 1 - First post-op appt with Dr C. Twelve days since surgery and already down 10 pounds!
Friday August 15 - Follow up appt - Down another 5 pounds!
Also he filled the band with 4 cc's. They numbed the area with a topical liquid on a gauze pad for about 5 mins. He also cleaned the area with betadine. He inserted a saline filled syringe and I felt nothing but a lil pinch on the inside. NOT BAD AT ALL!!
Up untill the fill, i was pretty much able to eat anything, just smaller portions obviously. After the fill I really didn't think about what i ate in terms of breads bc i tolerated them before the fill. Well let me tell you....i'll think twice from now on about what i put into my mouth LOL.
Here it is in a nutshell; I went for the fill on friday and went right to work. I ate at work and everything was fine. I left work and drove right down the shore. When i got there i was starving so i grabbed a half of turkey sandwich and went on my way to meet my friend about a block away. Well i guess it was a combination of walking and eating plus talking to my three year old on the way. By the time i got to my friend's house the sandwich was stuck in my chest (right between my boobs) my mouth was watering and i could't stop salivating. I went to the bathroom and up it came. Not the sandwich....a JELLYFISH LOL!! It wasn't vomit, it was mucus AKA "sliming". When food gets stuck your body produces this slime to help to dislodge it. It wasn't a forcefull upchuck, just kinda like "bloop" and there it was. Sorry if i grossed you out.
