Yeah ...
May 29, 2009
I had my surgery 5/5/09 as of today 5/30/09 I have lost 29 pounds! My clothes are beginning to get big on me and I can't wait to buy a few new things. I still get tired pretty easily, I hope this gets better soon. Sometimes I get a little dizzy and lightheaded and wonder if that is normal? Surgical pain is just a twinge now and then but better every day. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I continue to lose the weight. I'm working hard and only eating what I was told to eat.

Revision Patients
May 02, 2009
If you recently had revision surgery, was it done laproscopically or did they have to do an open procedure. How many tubes did you have in you when you woke up? If done laproscopically how long did you have to stay in the hospital? If you had to have an open procedure, how long were you in the hospital. I went to lunch with a friend yesterday who said that she was supposed to have her procedure done laproscopically but ended up having to do an open procedure. When she woke up she had a tube in her nose, a feeding tube, and another tube coming out of her side. I am just wondering about other revision surgery people and what they have experienced? My surgery is Tuesday, and I would rather know what to expect so I don't freak out when or if I wake up from surgery. I am feeling very afraid and just want some information so I can know what to expect. Thanks to all who respond. Susan

And So It Begins ....
Apr 16, 2009
My journey began simply due to illness ... I didn't even know about revision surgery until I became ill in January 2009. I had stomach stapling 21 years ago. In January I went into the hospital with gallbladder problems. On January 31st, I had my gallbladder removed. I thought that would end all my problems. However on February 16th I was readmitted to the hospital with severe abdominal pain. I had many tests done and was sent to see a surgeon at Strong Memorial Hospital. He took one look at my upper GI pictures and immediately recognized that my previous stomach stapling had failed. That was one of the causes of me regaining 60 of the 180 pounds that I had originally lost. The reason for my GERD and illness was due to staple line failure. My doctor sent me to see Dr. William O'Malley a leading Bariatric Surgeon. Dr. O'Malley has an average waiting time of eight months before you can get into see him. However, because my situation was considered to be an emergency, I was fast tracked into an appointment with him and my surgery is to take place in less than a month. Dr. O'Malley agreed to do my revision and update my revision to an RNY. He has also agreed to accept me into his weight loss program. When I had my surgery 21 years ago there was no support groups, no nutritionists to help you. You had surgery and you were basically on your own. I am looking forward to having support both from this online community and from within the surgeons office. It will be so nice to have my nutrition and blood levels supervised. I have never really felt well over the past 21 years. I can't even remember what it feels like to feel well. I hope and pray that this journey affords me much success and the joys of whatever is to come.
