Discouraged!

Apr 18, 2011

It has now been a year since my surgery, and I have to say I'm quite discouraged.  When I had the surgery I thought I'd be at goal by now.  Instead, I HAD lost a little over 50 lbs, but have gained about 8 lbs back.  I've been stuck for the past 8 months, going up/down the same 4-8 lbs.

I don't feel I've ever reached much restriction w/ the band.  I've had about 5 fills, but still don't get much (if any) restriction.  I HAVE, on occasion, taken one bite of something and thrown up...  I can only attribute it to possibly too large a bite, not chewing enough, or maybe something too dry.

So, I'm going back for ANOTHER fill in a couple of weeks, and a visit to the dietician to see if I can kick-start the process again.  And I need a kick in the butt to get myself exercising consistently.   It hasn't helped that my husband had a RNY one month after my surgery and has lost more than 150 lbs, all the way to his goal.  And my brother had a RNY about 3.5 months ago and has lost about 100 lbs, and is about 2/3 the way to HIS goal.  I think their success, w/o having to expend much effort, depresses me the most!

Truth be told, I wish I'd had the RNY or GS, but since I only have 50-60 lbs to lose now I probably don't qualify for a revision. :(

Stalled....

Jul 20, 2010

I'm about 10 wks post op, lost 34.5 lbs... but I have been going up and down the same 4 lbs for 2 weeks!!!!  It's driving me nuts!  I started eating more fruits/veggies and drinking more water this week... hope it helps!  I'm also TRYING to get to the gym 4-5 days/week, but when I go I'm usually rushed for time and only get to use the elliptical for 20-25 minutes.

Tom (DH) has lost 52 lbs already, and is 6 weeks post op.  I know he's going to lose faster because he had a RNY and is male, but truth be told, it's a little disheartening!

I know that stalls are common, so expect this to pass.... just hope it's soon!!!

6 weeks post surgery

Jun 10, 2010

and I'm the picture of health!!!   I used to take 20+ pills a day (diabetes, high cholesterol, high BP)... I haven't had to take a single of these pills since the day of surgery!!!!      I DO have to take a Lasix every day because I tend to retain fluid in my legs, and liquid potassium to make sure the Lasix doesn't cause me to lose too much potassium.

This is the first time in my LIFE that I haven't been afraid to step on the scale!!!  Now that I'm eating regular food my weight might go up for a day or two, but then it drops down even lower, so I don't pay much attention to those spikes.

I'm lucky, I had no post surgical problems.  I was out of work for only 4 days (surgery on Tuesday, then worked from home the following Monday).  If I didn't have the option of working from home I would have probably taken off another week.

Other than having to watch the amount I eat, and making sure I get enough calories and protein, I don't notice anything different.  I haven't discovered any kind of food that I can't tolerate (even small amts of popcorn at the movies!)

I feel like a different person.  My outlook on life is very positive. Before, the weight was making me feel very over-whelmed, with everything.  I'm back to my old, fun-loving self... I wish I'd done this sooner, but at least my children are still pre-school, so hopefully they won't remember much about the frumpy mommy they had up till this year.

My husband had a RNY gastric bypass last week, and I'm SO excited that we are taking this journey TOGETHER!!!
