I had lap-band surgery in 12/2004 while living in Texas. I thought that at last I would lose weight, at about 6 months in I knew that would not be the case, I had only lost 6 pounds. Some people say they know many people who had Lap-bands and have lost weight, all the ones I know havent lost much. I think I lost the most at 55 pounds about 1 year post-op. I wish my surgeon had pushed me toward the RNY at that time. As of current my lap-band port had flipped over and is not accessible. Going back to surgery is the only way to repair this, so I am seeking a RNY now. Since I have to be operated on again I would rather do something that is more permanent, or at least with a proven record of success. I feel failed by the lap-band, for the first year I saw the MD at least once a month for evaluations and fills, and I only saw one thin person the entire time I was going there. If you have a choice I would do alot of thinking and researching about the band. I hope I get approved for my RNY, and soon!
