RIDAVID
Hell all my nam is David I am a 32 yr old EMT-Cardiac from RHODE ISLAND. here is a little about me before my story, I have a wonderful wife Kellie and two great stepsons Craig and Alex. Well I will start with this I have always been somewhat overwieght but have gain most of my weight in the last 5yrs. On a visit too my primary doctor i was told i had to do something to loose wieght i had reach my max wieght at this time of 535lbs I had developed sever sleep apnea at a rate of 127 times a hour, Asthma borderline Hypertension, lymphadema in my right leg and possbu periferal vascular disease. My doctor basicly told me i would be dead within ten years. So at first i tried a great liquid diet called OPTI-Fast and lost 85lbs but once off the optifast I regained 75 of those 85 pounds I had lost. So I went to go talk to my Surgeon Dr. Dean G Roye and we discussed the gastric bypass surgery. He laid it all out on the table told me I was not a lap canidate and I would have to be a open canidate which I was fine with. We did all the Pre-op workup my inital wieght at his office was a estonishing 514lbs with a BMI of 63.2. After a few months of getting all the test done I recieved my surgery date of August 5th 2005. I had already started to try eating better before my surgery I knew that this surgery was only a tool to a lifestyle change that i would have to make. Well as it got closer to my date i got more nervous and more on edge i was really contimplateing haveing this surgery but I knew I had to do it if I wanted to live. My Surgery day came and the surgery went perfect it included the removal of a very bad gallbladder. I was Home in three days with 35 staples in my stomach holding the insicion closed along with a Jackson Pratt drain in my stomach and was schedualed to go see the surgeon in 2 weeks for the first post-op visit. All my visits to the surgeon have gone very well and i am know 15 months post-op and down 215 lbs and still going even thow it is slowed down but i am not going to give up.
