Slow starter. 01/22/08

Jan 22, 2008

The reason I say I am a slow starter is that I had my surgery about 8 weeks ago and this is my first post.  Here are a few of the highlights pre-surgery and immediately post surgery.
I had no problems with my insurance.  God Bless Humana.  Once my packet was submitted by the hospital I was approved in about 2 weeks.
My biggest advice to anyone having gastric bypass is to go to a support group the night before thier surgery.  It pumps you up and you have an opportunity to ask any and all questions that may be bugging you.  I'm so glad I went.
The surgery was no problem.  Yes there was pain, but not uncontrollable.  Yes, there was nausea, but that went away with a little walk or two.
No problems so far with my recovery.  I was back to work in 2 weeks and joined a bariatric surgery specific excersise class at 3 weeks.
Food.  I do seem to throw up a meal at least twice a week.  It doesn't seem to be any specific foods.  Sometime the same thing I at for dinner comes up when I try to eat it again for lunch the next day.  Overall I don't feel limited by what I can tolerate and have not been overly frustrated.
Now lets get to the part everyone wants to know about.  HOW MUCH WEIGHT HAVE I LOST?  So far about 50lbs.  Long way to go to get to my goal but I am very happy with the headstart I have.  I have also gone down two jean sizes.  Can't complain about that.
Support from friends and family have been great.  I have been very open with just about everyone.  I am proud of the decision I made and do not feel that something this good should be hidden.  Not that I introduce myself as "Hi, my name is Jessica, and I had bariatric surgery" either.  That's taking it a bit far.
