OK, here is my story. Not really too heavy as a kid, but had periods of chubby followed by periods of normal weight. However, I was always conscious of my size and started my first diet at age 13. At 17, I thought I was fat at 130lbs and dieted down to 106lbs. Went up to 125 in college and stayed there until I was around 24 yrs old. Gained 25 lbs after a bad relationship, and weighed 150/160 by the time I met my hubby. Gained another 50 lbs over the next few years and by the time I had my first baby at age 30, I was up to 218 lbs. Dieted up and down over the next few years but managed to stay around 220 by the time my second baby was born five years later. Went back to work about 7 years ago, and gained and lost many times. Have weighed 240 for the last year. and at 5'4", that is A LOT. And at 48 years old, it is much more difficult to get around, and those pesky co-morbidities are beginning to take their toll.
I started to see a great therapist who gently brought up WLS because she had 4 other patients who had had it with good results. At first I was adamantly against it but after researching more, and talking to others who have had is, I started to look into WLS with an open mind. Now I am ready willing and able, as soon as I get the good word from my PCP.
