On 3/19/07, I went in for a RNY proceedure, unfortunately the procedure began and was stopped.

Dr. Tompkins found layers and layers of thick adhesions over all my abdomen including my liver, heart, aorta and stomach.  The adhesions were the result of peritonitis I had in 05 from a Lap Band erosion/perferation of my stomach.  The band was only in me for 20 months, of which the last six months there was zero fill in it.  A totally empty LB literally ate through my stomach.  In 05, the band was found laying inside my stomach next to two holes.  The surgeon then told me that apparently the band had erode about two months prior to it's removal.  He based that on the amount of inflamation in my abdomen.  Dr. Tompkins tried for over four hours to clean scar tissue, but the wall of my stomach was inches thick with adhesions and the RNY was stopped. I am glad he did.  I am today (5 days since surgery) home, alive and thankful for a wonderful surgeon.  I personally do not feel the LB is a safe or effective WL procedure, however, I wish anyone well that has a LB and I pray that they research it well before having a LB.  OH has been great.
