Like so many others here at OH, I have had a life time struggle with weight. I have always joked that I went from size 6X (girls) into Misses Plus. I have managed to lose significant amount of weight several times, only to regain, plus more. I finally decided I just needed to accept who I am - a fat woman.
But the last couple of years have been pretty hard on me. At 48, I had a total hip replacement. I had become so immobile, I was hardly able to participate in my family's life.
Over the Christmas holidays, my husband & I visited a childhood friend of his. If we hadn't been in his house, I wouldn't have know it was him. Here stood a man who the last time I saw him weighed 400+, but now looking thin and happy! He shared his story with WLS and thus began my journey.
My husband and I attended a seminar in early January and I signed up for gastric bypass surgery. My insurance requires a 6 month supervised diet, which I was disappointed about - but still thrilled that they cover the surgery.
I have completed 5 of the 6 appointments for the supervised diet. They will be submitting to the insurance company for approval for my surgery in the next few days. Hopefully approval will come quickly and I can schedule the surgery for the end of June.
I am currently 49, happily married with 2 wonderful children (10 & 7). I can't wait to be able to do more with my family!
