I am a 39 year old wife and mother of 2 children. I have always worked and been active. I have also always been overweight. Up until recently, my weight hadn't stopped me from doing anything. The last few years, I have had some medical problems, and lets face it, being overweight certainly didn't help. My physician had offered to refer me for gastric by-pass surgery about 4 years ago, and I refused because at the time, I had NEVER had surgery. Well, since then, I had my gallbladder removed, and a complete hysterectomy (they got it all). After these surgeries, I developped a bad hernia, and the surgeon here refused to touch me because of my weight.....he told me to lose 100 pounds, and come back and see him. I was not impressed. After really trying to lose some more weight on my own, I finally broke down and asked for that referral. I saw Dr O'Malley in May of 2007, and he said that I was a good candidate for the surgery, and he would fix my hernia at the same time. I was so excited! After dealing with scheduling issues with his office, I finally had my surgery on December 4/07. My husband is very supportive, as is all of my family. My kids can't wait to go back to Wonderland........the last time we were there, there was one ride they really wanted me to go on with them, and I didn't fit....that was really embarrassing for me and for them. I am now 3 months out of surgery, and feeling good. I have lost a total of 74 pounds, and plan on losing another 70 by my birthday this summer.
