6+ weeks out
Sep 12, 2008
The best part is that I was out walking all day. Yesterday my husband and I walked all the way from Harrah's back to Mandalay Bay. (If you have never been there, it is a long stretch). I couldn't do that when I was there a few years ago.
Weight loss has been slow but steady, I am having trouble getting in my protein. A couple of weeks ago I just couldn't drink my proti diets any more, which is strange because I really like them. I have tried other protein supplements, but can't seem to tolerate much. Hopefully it is just a phase.
More soon.
4 Weeks Out
Aug 25, 2008
The first couple of weeks after surgery were pretty rough mentally. I think I was obsessed about food. I thought about what I couldn't eat and was craving my favorite things. I really felt like I had made a mistake going thru with the surgery. I like food too much.
Now at 4 weeks I have a better perspective. It seems it was just a phase as I don't really think about what I can't have anymore. I do wish I could have a donut and I am sure I will taste one at some point, but for now I am good.
I get to start my excercise program today at McConnell Health and I am really excited about it. That's all for now.

It sure feels good to be home.

2 more days

I have been on the liquid pre-op diet since Monday with Surgery this coming Monday, July 28th. I really think if I can get through this stage(while on vacation with 8 other people) then the rest will be smooth sailing. I could be wrong, but it is hard to imagine much worse than sitting around eating jello and nasty soup while everyone else is eating cake and everything else I love. At least at home I can go somewhere where I don't have to smell the cooking. It is hard to escape it here.
I know it will all be worth it in the end. Right?
Approved
Jul 12, 2008
Finally approved yesterday after 2 appeals. I have my pre-op this thursday and surgery on the 28th or 29th of July. Now hopefully my insurance company will pay the bills since we switch to a new insurance company on August 1st.
More Waiting
Jun 09, 2008
It has been three months since I was first "non certified" for surgery. My insurance company would not accept the fact that I had been seeing a dietician for 3 months as part of the centers bariatric program. I had to have my primary doctor put me on a diet for 3 months. Of course, none of that was mentioned in the plan documents or told to me when I first inquired about surgery. I am only just a little bit bitter!
Now my information has been resubmitted and the insurance company claimed to not receive the paperwork. They also said that back in February so it must be a standard practice for them. The good in all this is that Fresh Start bariatrics at Riverside has been great and the insurance processesor has kept me up to date on everything happening and not happening.
Hopefully I will have good news in the next couple of days.
Waiting for Approval

I was reading through my insurance plan looking for information on coverage for speech therapy, for my daughter, when I saw the section about surgery for obesity. I had just assumed it wasn't covered. After reading it through, I thought, this just might work. I calculated my BMI and signed up for a Fresh Start seminar for the same night. I went to my all day appointment the following week. I visted with a nutritionist and fitness counselor, had lab work done and discussed the results and my health history with a doctor of internal medicine and had a psych evaluation. Having all the appointments in one day was very convenient.
I just completed my third appointment with the nutritionist during the second week of January and she has released my file to Fresh Start to move forward with insurance approval.
Now I am just waiting, hoping to be approved.
