6.12.09 Update on A1C, weight
Jun 13, 2009
Yesterday I had an appt w/ my specialist for my diabetes and my A1C is now 8.6!! YAY! My family physician added Metaformin (500) and Januvia to my specialists' existing regimine of 20 units of Lantus in AM plus 24 units of Humalog 3 X a day before meals. My family physician was hoping that maybe these being added would allow me to back off the Humalog, which he felt was causing the extensive fluid/weight gain. My swelling from fluid retention is downright spooky. I feel like my family doctor knows me inside out and we were both really concerned about this. SO yesterday, the specialist took me OFF the Metaformin, and UPPED the Humalog to 30 units three times a day.. ICK!! So much for progress on being taken OFF this crap ! lol I know this sounds horrible but I called my family doc to ask if this is the way I should be going. I know that the specialist knows his stuff obviously, but .. no one knows me better than Doc Heavin..He is more than my doctor- he is my friend. There arent many doctors out there that says "Call me at home if you need anything" or will do house calls anymore, but he is one in a million and a dying breed. He's been w/ me since I was 16. I just wanted someone else to know what was going on.. ya know?
Ok. Good news! My surgeon's office requires my A1C to be under 8 to be able to be put under for any type of surgery. My last two A1C's were 9.6, and then 3 months later 11.9. (WRONG way, eh...) The new reading as of yesterday was 8.6!!! Dang near low enough to be able to meet my surgeons specifications. **yay!** Also, although I am holding all this fluid he said he doesnt hear any rattling in my lungs where I am filling up w/ fluid there yet. Guess that's good ..haha!
Bad news.. I am up to 252. This f'ing sucks! I feel every pound of it, too. My back went out Tuesday of last week. ALL I did was move. lol Got out of my chair and whammo! By the time I moved 5 feet I was ready to get on all fours and crawl. Been sleeping in the lazyboy and nursing this damned thing now almost a week. Thank god I have Vicodin from an outpatient surgery to chew on. I actually broke down and made an appt w/ a local Chiropractor for Monday at 10 am. Hopefully they can see what's going on.
Anywho!! Its a waiting game... one that I am willing to play. Hell, I have had diabetes now for dang near 20 years, and it's NOT going to win! No way no how! It's found yet another 'worthy' opponent - and Mr. D is going DOWN!! ;-)
Have a nice weekend! Take care all and HUGS all around!

6.1.09 - Pre-auth/Surgeons office 5.29.09 & Resched w/ Physc
Jun 01, 2009
Three things here:
#1. Got a call from Amy from the surgeons insurance office called 5.29.09. Not so good news. She said that she had talked to Anthem BCBS and that there was NO getting around the fact that they were not going to approve this surgery w/out that Rider on the policy.
#2. I talked to my husband about what his boss said previously earlier in the week about the Rider; Guy did get a price quote on it from the Insurance Broker and it seems like it is going to go up $600.00. Hubby wasnt sure if that was overall, or per month. I don't know if that's good news or bad. I guess all I can do is stay positive and pray that come October this will be past tense and I will be on my way to getting this surgery done and over with.
#3. Had to resched my appt w/ Dr. Stout (I think is his name). You have to have $120.00 upfront. He doesnt file it on insurance for you so you have to come up w/the entire wad. I resched for July. Hopefully things will be better for me by then. I was told when we had our consult that there were other locations and docs offices that filed insurance, but the receptionist told me today that they were peppered within the state of Indiana, but no one else was in my area. The closest person is in Kokomo or Bloomingon. (wtf eh? talk about having the market covered!)
I wish I could have just went and got it over with to be honest, BUT...................my employer screwed up my paycheck, so now I am short $150.00. You know how it goes. Sorry, we screwed up BUT, hey, we will pay you NEXT paycheck. No one seems to care that that was my light bill money and my med money. Or, in this case, my doctors appointment money. They never cease to amaze me. They already have cut my commission and bonus money out of my check each day (which accumulated to about $150-200 a month), and then they ...somehow...have cut my daily pay around $20.00 per day. I get paid per minute because I am a telephone operator/call center agent. That doesn't sound like alot but multiply that times 10 days per check, and combine that w/ what they cut off for commission, thats A TON of money. Combine that with the fact that they have no benefits or health insurance, nor any type of retirement equals "I NEED A NEW JOB". What kills me more than anything is, what they are CUTTING from my check is what some people make per CHECK. Pathetic isnt it? I am actually finding it hard to come up w/ enough money to just pay for my necessities and meds. Anyway, ....... blah blah blah.
And the story continues..................................

5.18.09 Weight creeps up from diabetes meds
May 17, 2009
Now sitting at 248.3 . I gained .8 of a pound overnight. I know this sounds nuts but it's true. I am not sure what medication is causing this or if its the combination of the 4. The big huge pants that I had that were my home slumming pants are now FITTING which is NOT a good thing.
I will try to update my weight as I post. This could get real interesting if my surgery takes a year to get approved.
UPDATE: 6.1.09: My sugar levels ARE improving w/ this Januvia and Metaformin. They are now about 120-200 when I wake up and will range anywhere from 120-200 during the day. I have actually been having readings as low as 70 (which makes me feel like total DOG POOP when it happens). Headaches, spots in front of the eyes, weak, nauseated, COLD (omg cold cold cold which I never am). Is this how normal people feel??

5.14.09 Health records and Pre-authoriztion requested
May 14, 2009
Faxed over a pre-authorization to Dr. Edmondson's office to get a transcript from them and also asked for one from Dr. Heavin's office. Called to ask for medical records to be sent to Dr. Evanson's office, and Bev said that they had already sent a request via mail. WOW!! that was fast!
I am going to try to keep track of all the processes that I have to go through to do this inorder to help others that are struggling w/ BCBS to get their approved. G'night!
5.11.09 Initial consultation and got ball started..
May 11, 2009
My son, Ryan and I drove up to meet with Dr. Evanson and crew today at St. Vincent's Bariatric center in Carmel. NICE people! We found out all of the things that I need to start getting together for my approval (if I get approved). Dr. Evanson said that I should have the RNY surgery and that I was a perfect candidate for it, especially to cure my diabetes. ****YAY*** I wanted to cry from happiness. To hear those words-- yes, there is a cure-- is a miracle in itself.
I have to get a letter to my husbands boss so that he can submit it to the insurance broker (Lori) to get a quote for a medical rider to be added to the company's insurance policy in October. I am PRAYING that this is not a huge amount since adding this will increaes the entire group's rates. It just seems so unfair to ask him to pay more for all the people that work there JUST for me and my surgery. We will see what happens.
I also need to get a letter of pre-authorization from my family physican and my specialist to have that faxed to Colleen(I believe that is her name). Hopefully we can get the paperwork submitted in a timely manner.
Ok. It's almost 3 AM but I wanted to make notes before I forgot what happened today. Anyway, good night!
