History

Back in 2006, I had lapband surgery. Had every complication you can think of and it had to come out. Then after several years, the weight came back on and I decided to have the gastric bypass. That was 1 week ago and I am doing well. Not great, a little sad, little bored, but healing well. And already down 20 lbs in 2 weeks. I live near Rockford and would love to start a support group. Together we can do this!

Another fill
Sep 14, 2008
On Thursdasy I saw the doctor for another check up. I didn't lose any weight, BUT... I didn't gain any either. The doctor was pleased, at least she was not upset. I did get another fill, another 1cc. They pulled out the old "fill" and all looked good, and I didn't have to be numbed this time.
I did meet with the nutritionist which was okay with me. She gave me some more good tips for late afternoon eating.
What is exciting this time is that for the first time in two years (since my first banding) I totally feel the band. I feel tight. I actually ate some cream cheese and that got stuck. I get scared and feel like I can't swollow but the few times that has happened I felt it was a huge eye opener for me. My portions are VERY limited and I can totally tell this is working.
I am getting married in April and have a small bet with the nurse at the doctor office, that if I hit my small goal of 175, which is 25 lb by the time my wedding rolls around, they will buy me a gift, something fun to keep me motivated. The doctor is in on the gift too, said that losing 25-35 is very possible, however this will be the hardest thing I have ever done. Since the fill is working I am very excited about this.
Talking with my family and friends, I am so awear of their portion control (do you know how many people go back for seconds and thirds) and really are they hungry?
I feel good, isn't that what really matters? I do have a goal of losing another 50lbs, and I hope to do so within a year. I am praying!

First fill
Jul 20, 2008
On Thursday. I had my first fill in my new band. The dr. was pleased with my progress and gave me 1.0 in my 10.0 band. I do feel tight, Friday night I had a small issue with getting stuck, but got though it. I have made some changes that I didn't do before, mainly PLAN ahead. for me and my finance (I tell him that he has to do this too) and I have been packing our lunches. He loves them and I know we are eating better.
I got the green light after being on a weight restriction to work out again, tomorrow back to weights and cardio.

I just wanted to bring my friends up to date on what is going on with me. First, back in March, and after almost 1 ½ years my doctor, while doing a fill realized that there was no liquid in my band, filled it 3.00 (a 4.00 band) and waited another 4 weeks and then again found that band was empty. Since I was only down 50 lbs in the 1 ½ years she gave me the choice if I wanted a band replacement or not, I agreed and had to start all over again, even with the insurance company. A few weeks later, all was good and I got another date of April 23. This time I got a new band which actually holds 10 (cc I think) and the doctor felt that this was actually a better band, hold more and people do a better job. So surgery came and went, felt good, mainly because I knew what I would be going though and I was more emotionally prepared for it. Back to the liquid diet too, all went well until.... About 3 weeks later, I got a horrible cold, including sore throat, horrible cough, sneezing my brains out and then that caused me horrible pain in my port area. After a few weeks of horrible pain, having to wear the ab band all the time (that thing I got from the hospital right after surgery, I am not sure but I have heard it been called the ab binder too) I was in touch with the doctor so much as my port hurt so bad, almost like it flipped over (I had that problem in July 2007) and I went back to the doctor, everything felt great, like the port was in position and all was good, but I was still in great pain all the time. Mainly when I was getting out of bed, laughing, driving, sitting all day, etc. Therefore, the doctor thought that when I had the cough I might have pulled some sutchers (sp?) so the next week they did explorer surgery to see what the problem was. I went into surgery, again at the hospital and within 30 minutes I was back in my room resting and they removed the sutchers (sp?) and the doctor could see that they were pushing into my ab walls and she could tell that this was causing me great pain. That was a week ago Wednesday and I felt better (from the pain, but the surgery was then a different type of pain) but I got the all clear to go on vacation last Sunday. It was my annual trip to Florida with my family already paid for, so I was scared that the dr might not give me the green light. However, she did, but gave me strict orders to not lift anything more than 10 lbs and rest, I must rest. My family agreed and said they would make me rest and not life anything.
I feel that my eating before the trip was good, in fact, since this lapband, in April, I had been down 20lb and I was feeling great.
The bad news is that it was eating horrible. Although they are supportive, I still did not feel I had support with my eating from my family. I had ice-cream, several times, I had some bread, felt like crap, that is one thing that I am not eating anymore of, it's painful, but felt that my eating was out of control. They eat all the time. I tried not to eat, but it was so hard, we ate at the condominium a lot, which was good, but horrible because I found myself with no portion control. I am on the way back home, very ready to be home, but I need to hear from you guys on how to get back on track. I am nervous that I blew it, I know you people have been there and honestly I did not blow it, but how to do I get back to where weight lose; feeling great, and my health is #1. .
