This all started November 6, 2006 when paramedics were called because my esophagus had closed up near my larynx while having breakfast. Needless to say, I was slowly choking to death. With a frantic family running around trying to help, I calmed myself and my esophagus relaxed. The emergency physician sent me directly to a gastroenterologist and a 3 year long series of EGDs and biopsies followed as my Barrett's Esophagus was tested for cancer. I always thought RNY was a drastic step for weight loss and never really concidered it. When my estranged husband decided it was time for a divorce, I knew I would be losing his medical insurance. I talked to my gastro doc about what I could do to permanently fix my problem, and alas, here I am. Hopefully, the weightloss cures the GERD and saves me from esophageal cancer!
