Checking In

Sep 21, 2007

I have been so terrible keeping up on my blogs so I thought I would check in.  I am 7, almost 8 most post op and doing great!  I have lost 80 pounds and dropped 4 dress sizes (5 in some cases)!  I recently had my second knee surgery and for the first time in 4 years I am able to walk without a walker or use a wheelchair.  It has been non-stop for me.  I feel like my old self that is just a little creaky!   I really couldn't be happier right now.  I see my back surgeon this Monday (24th) and I am going to beg him to let me go to work, so we will see what he has to say!  That's all for now.  I hope this finds all of you doing well!

6 week check up..

Mar 17, 2007

Well, I went to see my surgeon on the 15th (the day after my birthday...go figure) and everything went well.   They said at this point I should have lost 10-15% of my body weight and I have lost 12%.  The nutritionist said that she thought that was "amazing" since I am not able to do the walking that you are supposed to do.  (I have a knee & back injury that they new about that prevents me from walking at this time).   I thought that was good.  I am getting ready to start physical therapy again for my back and that is in the pool, so hopefully that will help me to lose more weight!! I just wanted to let everyone know what is going on....I'll post more when I have more to say!!

Not a good day...

Mar 09, 2007

Well, today has not been a good day, but it really started last night.  My husband, mother, and grandmother went out to eat and my meal came with a salad.  I ate two bites of it and I got that pain in my "chest".  I went to the restroom and vomited twice and then I felt fine and was able to eat my main course (grilled shrimp) with no problems.
This morning I had a few bites of oatmeal and some milk with no trouble and for lunch I attempted to eat left over pork chop and mashed potatoes (which I have had before with no issues) and I had the same problem as last night...pain and vomiting.  I finally called Barix because I got sick 6 times in a 30 minute time span.  Barix said it didn't sound like anything serious and that I should only have a liquid diet for the rest of the day and tomorrow gradually try to eat  solid food to see how it sits.  This is a terrible feeling, let me tell you.  I hope that I am going to feel better soon and that it doesn't turn out to be anything serious.

Soft Food

Feb 23, 2007

Well, yesterday I started on soft foods.  Everything is going well so far.  I have had salmon, vegetables, and a sandwich (sort of..ha ha) and I have had no trouble with anything.  It is nice to be able to eat "real" food again without blending everything...my husband is glad too!  Just wanted to let you all know.

How Much Weight?

Feb 21, 2007

I was just wondering if anybody knows what the "normal" weight loss is supposed to be after surgery?  I am 3 weeks out today and have lost a total of 20 pounds since surgery.  Is that good, not enough, or too much?  I guess I am just wondering if I am "on track".  If anyone has any information, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank You!

********UPDATE*********
I did call Barix about the lack of weight loss this week and spoke to the nutritionist..I LOVE her...anyway, she said that 20 pounds in 3 weeks for my requirements is actually ahead of schedule and I should not worry.  She also said since it was "that time of the month" that plays a big part in why I havn't lost recently...she said it is normal and I am doing just fine and not to worry.  I feel so much better after talking to her.  Although, I do still wish it would start coming off again!!

Two Week Check Up...

Feb 14, 2007

I had my two week check up yesterday with my surgeon and nutritionist and everything went great!!!   They both said I was doing fantastic and they even moved me to the pureed diet!!!   I am sooooo excited.  I was getting really sick of the liquids, but even though I wasn't on them the whole 3 weeks, they said it was safe to move onto the next stage.  I can have mashed potatos, cottage cheese, chicken salad, tuna salad, applesauce, soups without blending them...I am doing great on it so far.
I have now lost 15 pounds since surgery, with 9 pounds before surgery for a total of 24 pounds.   I wore jeans for the first time in a year yesterday and they were even baggy!!  I couldn't believe it!   My next appointment is the day before my birthday...Yeah!   I just wanted to give an update to everyone!!

I'm Home!

Feb 06, 2007

Hello Everybody.  I want to say thank you again for all of your wonderful comments, prayers, thoughts, and concerns.  I know that God heard each and every one of them!
I had my surgery on Thursday Feb. 1st and the surgeon said everything went well.  It took about 2 hours and they did do it laproscopically.  The day after surgery didn't go so well.  I had TONS of gas pain and even though I was burping, I couldn't get rid of it all.  I was extremely nauseaus all Thursday night.  When they did my leak test on Friday morning, it didn't go so well.  There is no leak, but the medicine made me sick and I lost it.  The x-rays showed that I had a tremendous amount of swelling in my pouch and it was nerly swollen shut!  They put me on lasix (water pill) to try and get the swelling down.  It worked...Saturday morning they redid the leak test and I didn't get sick (I got sick about 6 times the day before)..and I felt tons better.  They gave me my clear liquid diet and I kept everything down and the pain was gone.  I went home on Saturday as scheduled and spent about 2 days with my parents and we just now came home to our house.
It's so hard to believe that I just had surgery because I don't feel like it.  I have had no trouble eating or keeping things down, and very little gas pain.  I did weigh myself today, and I have lost 10 pounds already!!!!  I am soooo excited!!!
Well, that is my update for now.  I hope all of you are doing well!!

Thank You

We are leaving tomorrow, so I won't be on for awhile, but I will give you all an update as soon as I am well enough to get back on the computer.  Thank you all again so much!!
