Leahness
My name is Kelly and I am 28 years old. I have been happily married to my wonderful husband for 4 1/2 years and we have a cat named Kaylie. We just recently lost our 16 year old cat Snowflake in December 2006. I have been off of work for 4 years now due to a car accident I sustained and our life has been a nightmare ever since.
For starters, I have been overweight my whole life. Also, everybody in my family is overweight. When we were in the car accident in 2003 I herniated a disk in my lower back and I was bed ridden for 6 months...then I was still unable to walk for about 2 years. This as you may know is not conducive to losing weight. I then underwent two back surgeries in September of 2005 which left me with a massive infection that took over 6 monhts to heal.
As if all this was not enough, I injured my knee while going down a step trying not to hurt my back. I just had a knee scope performed on Sept. 13th and was told that a whole section of my left knee has no cartlidge or tissue in it at all and it is completely bone on bone. I am now confined to a wheelchair because I am not allowed to walk on it and I have to have a cartlidge and tissue transplant. However, my surgeon will not perform the surgery until I have bariatric surgery to lose weight. If I don't havae this knee surgery within a year, my knee surgeon says that I may never walk again .
During this ordeal over the past 3 years, I have gained about 100 pounds (and I didn't have room to gain anything!) It has been terribley tough, let me tell you.
The hardest thing for me has been not being able to start my family. I love children so much and would like at least 3 children and it just kills me that I have not been able to start my family because of my condition.
However, I do have a wonderful and supportive husband and great parents who love and support me (I am an only child). I am greatful everyday for them and am greatful to God for his love and without God and my family, I would never had made it this far.
