My story is so much like those I've read about here. I've fought the "battle" for 20 years. I can lose, but the moment I take a break-I gain it all back plus some. But when I hit 40 this year, I decided to make a life change! I found Dr. Barker by reading so much! I met with him and we decided on the RNY. I completed all the required tests and got diagnosed with sleep apnea. Then the insurance merry-go-round started. I had to complete the 6-month "diet" as if the past 20 years worth weren't real. But, my insurance approved me December 11, 2007. My Dr. appt to set the date is on Tuesday. I'm hoping to have the surgery before the end of the year!
