Trying to re-connect

Aug 17, 2012

Hi all,
So I've had a LOT of changes since I posted last year. Of course, I've lost a LOT of weight (now 100 lbs gone!!!!), but I also lost my job in early February. My whole team got laid off. I broke up with my boyfriend. There was some tension on his part regarding my new body and a lot of insecurity on his part as well. Now it's Aug. and I've finally started a new job (which is good because the savings has pretty much dwindled to nothing).  At any rate, I'm going to post some new pics. I still have a hard time "seeing" myself as an "average" sized woman...wearing a size 10....WOW! really weird!  But I've never felt better and look forward to having a lot more "new" experiences.

One Month Post-Op

Nov 06, 2011

Well, it's now been one month since my RNY.  It kind of feels like 6 months!  I'm down 20 pounds --- which is AMAZING to me since it was sooooo difficult to lose just a couple of pounds before the surgery.  I'm also only taking 6 units of Lantus at bedtime to keep my blood sugars right around "normal" range. I'm still testing my blood sugar at least 2-3 times a day but not having to take FIVE shots of insulin a day is a blessing. My endocrinologist feels confident that once I lose another 10-20 pounds I'll probably be off all insulin!

As far as adjusting to my slimmer self....I guess my head hasn't quite caught up yet. Some of my clothes are a little loose but I really can't "see" that much of a difference. People tell me that I look slimmer and my face is definitely slimmer so I guess that's what is truly happening. :)  I did easily fit into a pair of size 18 jeans yesterday (one size smaller) so the proof is in the puddin'!

The eating has been pretty uneventful. It's a challenge to get all the recommended protein and fluids in everyday, but I'm trying really hard to pay close attention to it.  I've been tracking my food on "MyPlate" (on LiveStrong.com) and that's been really useful.  It also allows me to export the data to an MS Excel spreadsheet so I plan on taking that to my first nutritionist vist in a couple of weeks.

The only "problem" I seem to be dealing with is a strange, new sensation of having to go to the bathroom a LOT!  And then when I go....nothing.  I would think it's a bladder or urinary tract infection but I've had those before and it isn't painful.  It's got my a little freaked out because now I'm thinking something about my new "plumbing" is affecting my bladder.  If it doesn't get better this week, I'll go see my regular doctor.  Anyone else have issues like this?

Re-scheduled surgery

Sep 28, 2011

So I originally had my RNY scheduled for 7/7/11.  My mom came across country to help (along with my fiance) and I got all the way to the pre-op holding area.  Had everything ready, contacts/glasses off, IV started, met Anes. doc...then...my surgeon walks over with a piece of paper in his hand and says, "well, there' s a little wrench in the works...you're PREGNANT!!!"  WHAT!!???  As background, I'm 42 y.o., have a 14 y.o. son, am a Type 2 diabetic, AND I had a uterine ablation done a little over a year ago.  This was NOT a good thing. Of course, my fiance (who is 10 years younger and has no children of his own) was tickled pink!

Long story short, it was about 2 months of ups and downs, ups and more downs, around and around .... just when I made peace with God that I would not terminate the pregnancy and put it in His hands, the doc told me that it was gone. The pregnancy got to about 7 weeks and then ended. So God made the choice for me and it helped me understand a little bit better that trusting in Him and allowing myself to have no fear whatever comes to my life is a powerful blessing.

So I called my surgeon's office and re-scheduled the RNY for Oct. 10!!!  My mom isn't coming back out (she's got her hands full with a new grandson in NM) but my fiance, son, and friends will see me through the early recovery.  I'm really excited about getting back on track with my weight loss and my new healthier life!
