Hi, my name is Kathleen. I decided about a year ago to start doing something about my weight. Like everyone else on OH, I've tried most major "diets" (Weight Watchers, Atkins, etc.) and a certain about of exercise over the years. The only time I really lost a significant amount of weight for over a year was when I was in my early 20s in college. I lost about 60 lbs (along with my twin sister) but we didn't have a car and I walked at least 5 miles everyday around campus, down the hill to work and back home. I also never went out to restaurants and eat very "cheap" food at home.
Forward about 5-10 years, got married, got pregnant (got gestational diabetes) and have steadily gained about 10 pounds over the past 10 years. I've been a Type II diabetic for the past 8 years and on a LOT of insulin for about 2 years now. It has been basically impossible for me to loose any weight after going on the insulin and I just got so frustrated with dieting, dieting, dieting and exercising and seeing very little results.
This January I switched to Blue Cross insurance and I went straight to my surgeon's patient seminar and signed up! The process so far has been very easy (minimal time, testing, pre-surg requirements) and now my surgery is approved and the date is set for July 7!!!
I'm glad I was referred to this site as it has been very useful to me so far over the past 6 months and I know it will be a great resource in the months to come.
My primary goal is "resolve" the Diabetes so I can stop my health deterioration and the 5 daily shots of insulin. Oh yeah and if I can loose about 100 lbs that would be awesome too!
